This arachnid is among the largest vinegaroon species alive, reaching 6 cm in body length. This endemic mexican species is part of a wide species complex spanning over Mexico & southern U.S.A. Size: up to 6cm in body length Time period: Holocene (present day) Conservation status: Least concern to Near Threatened The animal drawn is a vinegaroon, an arachnid looking a bit like a scorpion with long thin first legs used as antennae, and it has a raised opisthosoma, ready to defend itself

A rough black-and-white pencil sketch of the early equine Merychippus in a running pose with its head held high. Its snout is drawn to resemble that of a deer rather than a modern horse, it has no mane, and it has a duiker-like tail. An oval-shaped bulge on its snout between the eye and the nostril hints at the deep pocket (preorbital fossae) in nearly all non-Equus equid skulls, still mysterious in function but potentially housing a unique sort of scent gland.
