S1 Ep03 The Hole Of The Leviathan
In this episode I meet a lovecraftian monster, and have a chat about the meaning of life.

The image shows a rectangular Roman dice tower (turricula) made of four copper alloy (bronze) plates with punched cut-out Latin letters and cut-out decorative patterns. At the bottom front is a stepped exit chute with small bronze bells attached to the opening. The tower is a Roman anti-cheating device. It has an open top and is hollow inside except for three staggered, downward-sloping plates, designed to randomize dice as they fall, ensuring unpredictable dice rolls. When the dice rolled out of the exit chute they rang the bells! There is a decorative dolphin either side of the stepped exit chute. The top of the front plate has two decorative pine cone finials. Height 25 cm. There is a single die shown next to the stepped base to illustrate how it was used. The front inscription reads: PICTOS VICTOS HOSTIS DELETA LVDITE SECVRI Translated as: ‘The Picts defeated, the enemy has been destroyed, play in safety’. Around the top of the three remaining sides, a second inscription made with cut out letters reads: ‘UTERI/FELIX/VIVAS’ translated as ‘Use happily; may you live well’. Found at a Roman villa at Froitzheim in Germany in 1985.

This Roman ‘turricula’ (dice tower) was used to ensure a fair roll of the dice! 🎲🎲🎲
Dice dropped into the top, tumbled over sloping internal levels, and appeared randomly below.

I'm just now seeing this post! Its fantastic. I love how we're all trying to slay the 1 HP Dragon (combat without HP/numbers). This is a really good system. My current drafts have similar ideas, but this one is so much more fleshed out.

En ik ben niet heiliger dan de paus. Ik lees die dingen ook. Ik probeer in de regel daar wel op dezelfde manier mee om te springen als met elke andere vorm van media. Maak zorgvuldige en kritische keuzes uit hoe en welke media je consumeert.
Ik denk dat ze er wel degelijk rekening mee houden, in de mate van het mogelijke. Maar dat men dan nog niet alle kaarten op tafel legt snap ik net ook heel goed. En wat wij eraan doen, geef je zelf net al goed aan. De vraag stellen is 'm beantwoorden ;)
Dat dat soort info maar te grabbel wordt gegooid, omdat we met z'n allen graag Eftelingnieuwtjes lezen.

We hoeven het niet eens te worden maar kijk: Efteling hééft geanticipeerd door het nieuws zelf eerder naar buiten te brengen, via *die* weg. Dat dat in de ogen van fans weer niet goed (genoeg) is, ligt m.i. niet aan de Efteling. En dat blogbericht, met ontwerp, komt heus wel, als het klaar is. 😉
Je mag het naïef vinden, maar ik vind het minstens even naïef dat we dat dan maar met z'n allen maar ok moeten vinden.
En "enemies close", tgoh. Echt ophef is er niet opstaan, buiten de fanwereld. Dit domineert niet de headlines zoals het verdwijnen van het Spookslot destijds.
