Interesting question. My amazon account is one of the oldest for sure. I was buying books from them in maybe 1995 or 1996. My gmail is pretty old too. I think I got one soon after it launched, but I can't remember the year.

Sometimes I wonder what my motivation is at this stage in my career. And it's this. Making sure small-minded men die mad about my inclusion. And propping the door open for as many smart and kind people as I can.
On Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 1PM eastern, we're hosting a second webinar for the @schmidtsciences.bsky.social HAVI program. Feel free to jump on if you'd like to learn more about the program. Register here: schmidtentities.zoom.us/webinar/regi...
Yes, I noticed.
That's a great point, Ben.
I was unaware that DOGE was feeding anything into AI (until I saw that article yesterday). I'm not sure how much (if at all) AI played a role, considering they cancelled basically all the awards (with a few exceptions, like presidential papers and such). But I can't be sure.
Pretty much 100% of ODH awards were terminated, Dot. So it wasn't just DEI. DEI was the jumping off point, perhaps, but it was also a repudiation of all the awards made by the Biden administration.
Yes, that's right.
I hear you and fully believe that we learn a lot about our texts (or substitute any other cultural object) just by the act of building tools around them. But on the other hand, yeah, jaw-dropping and sometimes (as Alex noted) extremely helpful.
One prime example of this: at MLA Alex & I both attended a session led by @anasalter.bsky.social. In the q&a, someone mentioned they teach Voyant in their DH class. Anastasia then, on the fly, built a tool in Claude Code that does what Voyant does, saying "I don't teach Voyant anymore."
Very true. If you asked me a year ago to list the "really hard problems" in digital tools for the humanities, I would have said handwriting recognition. (I'm not saying it is 100% a solved thing, but the ability of Gemini 3.0 to read handwriting is incredible.)
Sam, if you weren't on the other side of the planet I'd lend you one of mine (I actually bought an extra one just in case my day to day one broke.) I can attest that Seagate and Western Digital also make small, portable drives that use this connector.
As someone who has spent 20 years funding incremental advances in digital tools for humanities research, the leaps we've seen in just the last year are incredible. (One example from Alex below, but many others in really hard areas like handwriting recognition.)
I was just eating a Kadison Double Double Cheeseburger at my local bar, "Richard's Place" when I saw your Skeet!
Those are great. I love her brownie recipe too.
I will use your extra commas! ,,,,,,,

Yes, agreed.
Great piece by Ian Bogost about liberal arts colleges (gift link down thread).
That's a terrific piece, Ian. Thank you.
Quick reminder: This Tuesday, the HAVI team @schmidtsciences.bsky.social will be doing a webinar about our current digital humanities/AI RFP. It is January 20, 2026, 1PM EST. Register here: www.schmidtsciences.org/opportunity/...
Very thoughtful piece from @alondra.bsky.social about US AI policy and why "deregulatory" is a misleading description of its aims.
This looks like a really interesting CFP!
