The Australian Senate Select Committee on Information Integrity on Climate & Energy has published my 75pp submission on the history of fossil capital's systemic global disinformation war via the #AtlasNetwork thinktanks against climate science, policy & clean energy.

As you can guess: this is not a failure for hydrogen in any sense of the word. The goal was not to use hydrogen in gas grids, it was to offer a cynically fabricated promise of a solution to allow for more time to kill regulations and fight electrification.
And it absolutely worked:
New @climatetown.bsky.social video is out! I had the pleasure of chatting to Rollie + Matt ab false solutions pushed by the fossil fuel industry - theyβve made a fantastic video on Exxonβs algae debacle
(also being credited alongside incredible researchers is pretty cool too, Benihana was great)
Proud to join hundreds of other individuals + orgs calling on govts at #COP30 to recognize and act on the threat of disinformation - we need protections that defend public health, democracy and information integrity.

It's just been confirmed that Monash University is dropping Woodside as a partner because they don't align with their sustainable values. This is an incredible win for @stopwoodsidemonash.bsky.social who have run a dedicated grass roots campaign for years.
People need to stop glazing Gates - just because he's a billionaire doesn't mean he knows anything about the climate
(see βappeal to authorityβ fallacy: when people mistakenly trust an authority figure's claims simply bc of their perceived status)
Gates just wants to make money out of this.

β½Top 250 oil + gas firms own just 1.5% of the world's renewables.
Fossil fuel interests have paid millions in PR to mislead the public that they're "part of the solution" or "integrated energy companies"
π―Antonio Bontempi + Marcel Llavero Pasquina have recently published work proving otherwise.
BREAKINGπ’ Crack team of climate scientists show "it is no longer defensible for companies proposing new or extended fossil fuel projects to claim the climate harms will be negligible. Our research shows the harms are, in fact, tangible and quantifiable β and no project is too small to matter"

Going through submissions to Australian Select Committee on Information Integrity on Climate Change + Energy.
Big mixed bag of entries from people *concerned* about disinformation and people unfortunately *swindled* by disinformation.
Some you can just guess without even clicking into them π€·ββοΈ
I've been listening (and knitting) to the hearing on Youtube and have found Matt Canavan's rebuttals to his party's astroturfing really interesting.
It's almost like seeing the research play out in real time - would love to chat to you about this!
We were talking about how the oil industry in California will never be its former self today. How production is just not coming back no matter what the regulatory climate. And I found this image from the OC register from back in 2014.
Says it all.
We have a brand new paper, again by a team of crack undergrads, about the networks of these anti-wind lawyers. The Marcella case happened to be first. 10/n
www.climatedevlab.brown.edu/post/legal-e...
According to Timmons, the lawyers suing the lab, Nancie + Roger Marzulla "are hard-right libertarian lawyers who have been fighting major environmental laws since the 80s"
"They have connections to the Reagan + Trump Administration, oil producers, tobacco firms, Koch, Heartland insitute, etc"
Ridiculous - I hope Brown stands up to this like Harvard has.
This lab produces leading work on climate obstruction - it's helped me understand the organized, global, network of anti-renewables astroturfing - across the US, Australia, etc.
It's importance is exactly why they're being targeted.
Nvidia Corp. CEO Jensen Huang speaking at an event in Tokyo on Nov. 13, 2024. Photographer: Kyodo/AP Images So energy β¦ Fusionβs gonna work. Fusion is going to work. Um. On what time frame? Soon. Well, soon there will be a demonstration of net-gain fusion. You then have to build a system that doesnβt break. You have to scale it up. You have to figure out how to build a factoryβbuild a lot of themβand you have to get regulatory approval. And that will take, you know, years altogether? But I would expect [Helion 20] will show you that fusion works soon. 20 Helion, a clean energy startup backed by Altman, Dustin Moskovitz and Reid Hoffman, focuses on developing nuclear fusion. In the short term, is there any way to sustain AIβs growth without going backward on climate goals? Yes, but none that is as good, in my opinion, as quickly permitting fusion reactors. I think our particular kind of fusion is such a beautiful approach that we should just race toward that and be done.
Sam Altman is just blurting out words now

Incredible facts about Barrow Island There is no public access to Barrow Island as it is listed as a Class A Nature Reserve. It is home to 24 species and subspecies found nowhere else on Earth. Barrow Island is home to Boodie Cave, which is one of Australia's oldest archaeological sites and contains evidence of humans from 46,200 to 51,100 years ago. US energy giant Chevron was permitted to build its $54 billion Greater Gorgon gas extraction project on the island.
From a story about a new species of pseudoscorpion, this sort of highlighted the management of Australia in a nutshell

Australia's entrenchment with climate disinfo stretches a lot further than this - as per work from @pennytangey.bsky.social @roycerk2.bsky.social @commsdeclare.bsky.social @australiainstitute.org.au @ketanjoshi.co @timinclimate.bsky.social (and many more!)
The inquiry is largely pushed in light of the astroturfing going on in Australia, as studied by @jeremywalker.bsky.social and reported on by @cameronwilson.bsky.social
