Modesto and Empire Traction (MET) 1500 was working near Yosemite Blvd and Mitchell in Modesto, CA on Monday, March 31, 2008.
MET 1500 is a SW1500. Reportedly: it was built in 1968 as an SW1500, SSW 2489, serial number 7087-9, SP Class ES415C-1. It has been reported as having also been Locomotive Specialists, Inc. 2489.

My HO Model of Warbonnet Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe (ATSF) 356 was on the Tri-City Society of Model Engineers (TCSME) model railroad club in the historic Niles depot in Fremont, CA, on Friday, February 27, 2026. This is an Atlas model.
The real ATSF 356 was a GE U28CG. Reportedly it was built in 1966, builder's number 35999. In 1970 it was assigned to freight service and in 1972 it was repainted in Blue and Yellow. It was retired in 1980.

In a photo taken circa 1981, Southern Pacific (SP) 2598 is in Santa Clara, CA.
SP 2598 is an EMD SW1500, SP Class ES415-4. Reportedly: it was built in 1971, serial number 4608-8. These locomotives were called "cruds" mainly because they were so prolific. SP likely bought so many of them because they were such fine locomotives. Four plus decades later, many of these are still working for a living.

In a photo taken circa 1981, Southern Pacific (SP) 2598 is in Santa Clara, CA. SP 2598 is an EMD SW1500, SP Class ES415-4. Reportedly: it was built in 1971, serial number 4608-8. SP 2538 was an SW1500, SP Class ES415-3. Reportedly: it was built in 1969, construction number 35231. In 2006 it was renumbered (and repainted?) UPY 1123. It later became Knoxville & Holston River Railroad (KXHR) 1123.

Southern Pacific (SP) 2538 led black widow GP9 3611 and GP9 3581 at the Homestead Yard, West Oakland, CA, on Monday, December 17, 1973. SP 2538 was an SW1500, SP Class ES415-3. On Thursday, September 12, 1974, Southern Pacific (SP) SW1500 2478 was at Bayshore Yard, in Brisbane, near San Francisco, CA.
SP 2478 was an SW1500, SP Class ES415-1.  Reportedly: It was built in 1967, builder number 33138. It was repainted with speed lettering at one point. Assigned UP 1082 but UP number apparently never applied. It was retired in 1999. In 2000 it was sold to Gold Coast Rail Services as 2478, leased to Brownsville and Rio Grande International Railroad (BRG) 2478. Current disposition unknown.

SP 2479 is an SW1500, SP Class ES415-1. Reportedly: it was built in 1967, builder number 33139. It was retired in 1994 and sold in 1995 to Omni-Trax being resold to Minnesota Corn Processors (MCP) 2479 in Columbus, Nebraska. It was repainted green with gold and beige bands.

On Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the California Central Model Railroad Club (CCMRC) in the historic Agnew depot in Santa Clara, CA, my HO model of Southern Pacific (SP) 2575 crossed the middle trestle over "Mouse Creek." This is a Sunset Models "Prestige Series" factory painted DC Brass 2-8-0.
The real SP 2575 was a Baldwin built SP Class C9 Consolidation. Reportedly: it was built in 1905, builders number 25493. It was scrapped in 1953.

On Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the California Central Model Railroad Club (CCMRC) in the historic Agnew depot in Santa Clara, CA, my HO model of Southern Pacific (SP) 2575 crossed the middle trestle over "Mouse Creek." SP 1278 was an ALCo S6, built with MU capability, in SP Class AS409-5. Reportedly: it built in 1955 as SP 4642, SP Class DF-307, construction number 81429. It was reclassified as Class DS-607 in 1963. In 1965 it was renumbered and reclassified to SP 1278. It was retired 1978 and sold.

The Real UP 8242 was an EMD SD9043MAC. Reportedly: it was built in 1998, serial number 976800-64. It was wrecked in a grade crossing accident in 2011 and subsequently retired and scrapped.

On Saturday, February 7, 2026, my HO Model of Southern Pacific (SP) 1427 was leading a local westbound on the California Central Model Railroad Club (CCMRC) in the historic Agnew depot in Santa Clara, CA. This train was approaching "Shasta" on the CCMRC. SP 1427 is a Walthers model.
The real SP 1427 was an EMD SD7, SP Class ES615-4. Reportedly: it was built in 1953 as SP 5320, SP class DF-118 builder number 18385. In 1965 it became SP 2727, SP Class ES615-4, later it became SP 1427. In 1980 it was rebuilt to SP Class ES615R-1 1522. It was sold in 1995, subsequently scrapped.

SP 2716 was an EMD SD7, SP Class ES615-3. Reportedly: it was built as SP 5309, SP Class DF-117, in 1953, construction number 18381, the first of it's class, and was built with 62:15 gearing, steam generators and signal lights at each end. Renumbered to 2716 in the 1965 renumbering, it was renumbered again to 1416 in 1973. SP 1416 was upgraded in 1979 to SP Class ES615R-1 1511. SP 1511 was retired and sold in 1995.
