Intimate partner violence and disability – Fredinah Namatovu is exploring collaborations on digital tools or AI to improve access to support services for people with disabilities.
Traveling waves in reaction–diffusion models – Fredrik Ohlsson is looking for biological, chemical, or physical systems where symmetry-based methods could reveal new wave solutions.
Arctic ecosystem mapping – Matthias Siewert is seeking partners in machine learning and spatial statistics to work with small, noisy environmental datasets and Arctic drone–satellite image analysis.
New ideas, new researchers seeking collaborations: 3 researchers shared open problems at the Feb 25 Lunch Pitch this week - maybe you are who they are looking for?

IceLab affiliate Johan Henriksson was a speaker at our first Lunch Pitch of the season. He was interviewed about his experience and had great things to say about the collaborative potential - we hope he finds someone to help him with his millions of microbial genomes! www.umu.se/en/news/a-pi...
We would love to host a #postdoctoral fellow in Data-Driven Life Science!
If you have expertise in #microbiome analyses, #multi-omics studies and/or #machinelearning, please get in touch to discuss potential projects.

New researchers in IceLab are often encouraged to become one with ice. Become little ice cubes. In the river.
Don't worry, it is entirely voluntary! Two new members took advantage of health on campus day to try it out today! Well done to Master's student June and PhD student Luis!
Our Lunch Pitch season is in full swing - if you are a researcher in Umeå and like interesting scientific problems and a free lunch, this is for you!
In 2026 Stress Reponse Modeling at IceLab will open a new course, Stress Responses and Mechanisms, within the graduate research school of the centre. The group leaders are working together to craft the new course, and a joint paper on the same theme.
Last week group leaders from our @vetenskapsradet.bsky.social centre of excellence Stress Response Modeling at IceLab met at a local cabin and sledding hill to plan the year of activities. Naturally, the snow provided a welcome break from work!
Exciting new project from IceLab affiliate Olivier Keech - harnessing heat to grow shrimp and fish up here in Umeå!

New @science.org paper shows early-2020s methane spike driven mostly by a temporary slowdown in the atmosphere’s methane removal and climate-boosted natural emissions. IceLab’s @grocherros.bsky.social helped quantify methane from running waters, improving understanding of the global methane budget.
