The death of HMS Hood in Chapter 4 of Pursuit by Ludovic Kennedy is some of the best naval history writing I have read. Tragic and stunning in equal measure.
Assuming the prop hasn't been changed that is. I have seen a number of P51D's but only one with the original cuffed prop blades which are now very rare.
Many years ago we bought a property from an Oxford Don who had carried out research into the health benefits of the diets of the Inuit people of the Arctic (wrong end of the world I know). He ate only whale & seal meat for a year. The only change he found was that he grew a large pair of breasts!
Thats simply beautiful
Oi @nmtdambusters.bsky.social @alanallport.bsky.social youβre selling books here!
I was given a book as a present today (Ian Fleming & Operation Golden Eye - Keeping Spain out of World War 2 by Mark Simmons), I spent 30 mins going through the end notes and Bibliography before I even looked at the contents. @alexchurchill.bsky.social would be so proud. π
I absolutely endorse this and repeat it on behalf of myself and every author who has worked long and hard at their craft. If you do this, itβs no different from taking my wallet and helping yourself to the contents.
This will be afternoon listening while doing research.
Oh bugger, hope you feel better soon, take two books and call me in the morning.
Thatβs what James thought about on Monday, I get the feeling the idea is in its infancy.
A rather nice catch from my local 2nd hand bookshop Β£6 the pair @almurray.bsky.social
Its an enjoyable read, and a quick one. I found myself rolling my eyes and tutting at the obvious bias.
Itβs an easy read thatβs for sure. Not sure about the conclusions though.
Or frozen, I loved waking up to frost on the inside of the windows..truly I did.
@bsky.app after the latest update your app is unisable on iPad because of the way the photos keep appearing when the feed is scrolled, it keeps jumping past the text to show the image. Not helpful.

Its so much of a hatchet job you can cut wood with it. Its amazing how much of my teenage knowledge of Haig in the 80s was influenced by it though.
Reading The Donkeys by Alan Clark. The fact the author has to add a solicitors footnote on page1 of chapter 1 to clarify a point I suspect tells the reader all they need to know @alexchurchill.bsky.social
Ahh Cinnamon, not my favourite but tolerable.
They will thank you when it goes solid.
An epic thread about Spitfire wings
Peanut Butter in porridge, this is a revelation!
Barbarians! Is the map being taken too literallyπ
When pushed she will say she was being provocative to start a debate, whereas she was actually being a massive bellend
I can build a Billy in 7 mins with my eyes closed. The Kitchen chair we just bought took an hour and two skinned knuckles.
