Tom Klute aka Tommy Stupid is my guest co-host on the new episode of Beat Motel! Weβre talking bass lines! youtu.be/P6PbQV8gMyc?...
These Are End Times on stage
Ah that special moment, mid-set, when you're trying to remember what note comes next.
Oh I know that feeling :)
Oh don't do it to me. It's like choosing a favourite child. Chuck Nick Drake into it and you've got some real dilemma
Well there's something I need to look up. In my head he's in the same canon as Jeff Buckley. A friend of mine knew Jeff. There's a bit of a wild story I'll tell you one day.
That video absolutely blew my mind. It completely changed the way I thought about a lot of things. The bass playing is so aggressive and yet so soft. Oh my god, I love it.
I can't find the link as I don't have Spotify but if you search for "Beat Motel Benji's Nick Blatchley" you'll find it. It's quite an incredible episode Not because it's Beat Motel, just because Nick was there
I think it's the obsessive detail of production. I did a podcast episode many moons ago with somebody who used to hang out at Benji's and he said Bert Jansch had an incredible eye for detail. They're one of those acts that sound like they were recorded today even though it was 50 years ago.
I adore this footage. I didn't really understand the whole pentangle thing or Burt until I heard the Avocet album and absolutely swooningly fell in love with it
That first album is one album that's immaculate from start to finish. Everything's in the right place, everything is perfect. I remember seeing them on the first album tour and the guitarist in my band (Junk Culture) fell asleep snuggled up to someone's back because the crowd was so dense
The first Beat Motel of 2026 is here!

- Bands that set TV studios on fire
- The "urinary" breakup of 88 Fingers Louie
- Music for fat knackers on treadmills

Iβve just found out Dead Kennedys got their way today youtu.be/a3_iLqC1ufI?...
I'm so gutted that we couldn't use any of the video, but he insisted on using Discord, which is fair enough. But he was so animated and so relaxed at the same time it was a wonderful experience. Everybody should speak to Mike Watt at least once in their life.
In the new episode of Beat Motel, we've got the fascinating and very entertaining Mike Watt from Minutemen, fIREHOSE, and the Stooges. I guess we could call this a bit of a Christmas special. The YouTube version is live NOW and the audio podcast will be out on Monday.

I'm not sure it's moving fast enough to be Cad.
Yup. Iβd recognise those elbows anywhere.
I meant to tag you on that short. I'm glad you've spotted it. It's a great phrase :)
Brilliant to see prolapse in the list. What an absolutely unexpected comeback. Amazing
I didn't want to hype them up too much, but I did tell you they're a lot of fun
Oh and DM me a postal address and Iβll send you a copy of this antigenrecords.com/releases/the...
Itβs the venue we always wanted.
Cool as shit to see you tonight. It was great. Thank you for coming
Andrew Culture on stage
I play in several bands and love them all dearly. But These Are End Times will always be the band that is closest to my heart.
We donβt get to play very often. But tonight we have the whole band in one place for the first time is two years.
Weβre headlining The Baths in Ipswich.
Did you know Vikings dealt with itchy bums?
A short video I made about it has somehow hit 1.4 million views on TikTok.
What is the world coming to when a lad cannot make a simple clip with a bread based poo prop without thousands of baffled people tuning in?

Are there any bands who you really respect because of their art, their stance on something, or just because of their musicianship, and yet you find you can't listen to them?

So. Weβre down with Spotify
I was considering moving away anyway; it's just a pain in the bum
Strangely enough, I'm pretty sure this isn't the first time I've heard a story like this
Spotify have turned down our appeal and is removing the Beat Motel content from their podcast syndication platform (creators). We are using short music clips as part of our music discussion podcast. This is somewhat problematic. YouTube seems fine though!
