Its true, I see no benefit in a 35mm full #DS9 remaster. I mean these are from the same episode and I can hardly see an issue worth addressing...
By a very cool dude ....
Clip 3 from my "Emissary" work for you to see, Mainly cos Kira is boss! ππ―
Clip 2 from my "Emissary" work for you to see, These scenes are mangled in the SD media we have, cleaned it up better but this and other prophet scenes need the full 35mm restoration work. Should look spectacular if we ever get to see it
Pulled a few more clip from this "Emissary" work for you to see, keep your eye on the motion clarity as quality will dip a bit going through Bskys encoder - enjoy !
Should still smash DVD and streaming platforms. This should be the minimum we got via DVD but seems quality was not the first priority
Thank you, Emissary is sadly in the worst state of any of the SD locked episodes from #DS9 or #VOY (I can think of a few from VOY that run it close) but am excited at the potential to where it can go. Sadly some things like dynamic range (wrecked by tape mastering) need film remas to look stellar!
Thank you
Done a little bit more messing about with my fusion pipeline work (still need to test linear source with 32 bit depth for the math e.g. blur) but thought I could throw a few #VOY shots your way. Now with the nudge over to Rec 709
Here is a little of "Emissary" in motion - remember the upload to socials eats a lot of the image quality - but you get the idea. Even at this stage of the pipeline its night and day compared to the existing DVD!
Will get to see #DS9 regularly on an OLED and not throw up!
Manual IVTC done on Emissary the Star Trek #DS9 Pilot. Thats every single frame manually looked at (160K+) frames cadence processed, issues noted on select ones to fix later on in the process so things like dust, hair, laserdisc dropouts and other production issues. Here are pics from pre upscale
The Proteus Natural is not 'eating faces' like other AI Topaz models and does an OK job on chroma cleanup too. Shown here from S6 #VOY #Trek
Exactly right - they are on recorded calls lying to the customer about what they currently provide and what I would get. Itβs a complete joke Iβm just going to get rid asap and get my own leased line I think. You only seem to get respect when treated as a business it would seem
Incoming rant about my ISP here in the UK Virgin Media
What I used to get and what I now get. The problem here is I was called up and lied to about a new contract. They rang to move me to the slower deal and told me all was the same. When I rang them recently again lied to and tough luck basically!
So #ENT Star Trek Enterprise is another Trek show thats going to benefit from the colour correction work too!
Still missing some of the edge handling and dot crawl but pleased with the motion of this Odo morph now. Just getting it to look right at 23.976fps #DS9
Thanks - those are upscaled 1440x1080 and 4:3 itβs good that the AI just fades to background thatβs what Iβm aiming for - watchable on modern TV let the content speak for itself
An additional #DS9 'Emissary' test I ran with an alternate model. Thought i would put it up too. Again in two minds most of the time as its squarely in 'work in progress' and people can expect finished article. But hell its here to look at :)
Back to some #DS9 testing, evaluating some single topaz models (for S1) testing when and where to deploy them. This is still missing most of my pre processing clean up but its been IVTC right and has a very general (and correctly done) conversion to Rec 709. This is about as good as "click go" gets.
From the final moment of this week's #StarTrek #StarfleetAcademy....
Also come to think about it, in DISCO (with the galaxy-spanning treasure hunt)
There is a Trill called Jinaal Bix about 800 years old and the trill authorities considered its age extraordinary but nearing the end.
Dax was 350 ish years old in DS9 now 800 years later just still A-OK π«€
Consistent?
At the end of the episode the SAM character finds out his return 20 years later, oh wow what did he do?
Turns the page, cut to black - episode end.
There I made it better in a sentence.
RIP unborn child of Cassidy Yates and Capt Sisko. Annoyed about that too. It also messes up what Sisko said to Cassidy in a vision, and promised her that he would be back, "maybe (in) a year, maybe yesterday. But I will be back."
Should have had him returning like the DS9 S8 pitch but left it open
So this annoys me. Post burn where Starfleet is recovering from MANY years away you publicly talk about the most destructive thing known, that kills subspace and that in the 24th century was limited to Capt and flag officers to supress knowledge. Nothing bad could occur right, telling everyone?
No worries - I shall go into other topics on my channel and a few other non related things too. Appreciate you got something from it. Thanks for watching!
So I did a video on my YT channel on handling IVTC with my stuff - plus I waffle about stuff in the beginning :)
Check it out if you want

A good visual of 4x3 standard presentation versus the #DS9 Documentaries approach with the rescan. You can see the extras bits missing from 4x3 and also how well the Laserdisc source manages through the current upscale pipeline
This is S1 "The Nagus"
Go see how crap this looks via streaming!
In AVISynth, defreq is a nice way to get rid of NTSC scanlines as shown here in a cleaned frame from the raw laserdisc output. I just wish it was re-written to handle 10+ bit. Its stuck in 8 bit land right now.
Bits of Star Trek #VOY will be pain. This is bob deinterlace slowed. Film, 24p origin is (top field first) prob telecined to 60i and VFX is (bottom field first), auth probably at 30i.
They overlaid these two things so the phaser blast animation is presented out of order. This is temporal heresy!
