A full graphic novel page of my original character Capt. Wren and Bee Buddy, two pirates with a hearts of gold. The 5 panels comic page shows Capt Wren sighing longing at a picture of his folks. Bee Buddy on the poop deck fishes out a message in a bottle which he hurriedly brings to Capt. Wren. The message tells them to find the Heart Treasure to lead them to find Capt Wren’s folks. And in the last panel they sail away to begin their journey and adventure on the high seas. About the Illustrator: Hello 👋 I’m A-Chau Caban, from California, USA. I’m an illustrator and autodidactic artist on my second career journey from IT to book illustration for graphic novels and picture books. I love illustrating animals and animal characters with relatable personalities because they seem to teach us more about being humane and about humanity. I find we receive these messages with a more open heart through these characters. And, I enjoy expressing a range of relatable emotions for my animal and children characters through their characteristics, their movement and actions, and their settings. My goal is for all these elements together to peak the curiosity and excitement of the reader and “draw”them in along with the characters through their story. Mili Fay’s Art Nouveau inspired illustration of Andersen’s and Disney’s The Little Mermaid. Featuring the Little mermaid as a beta fish wearing her oysters and pearls, behind her is a circle of alternating crabs and yellow-blue fish and and purple starfish. The central panel is under the sea, while the outer panel reveals the prince’s castle at sunrise. In the middle and bottom of the frame are two decorative gold fish spurting water from blow holes like whales and supporting a trident in the middle. This illustration was created in 2017 with watercolor, ink and gold leaf for the Every Girl Is A Princess series. Representing the life lesson Mili Fay learned from The Little Mermaid story: “I will fight for impossible dreams.”
