Massive effort! Would be very cool to hear more ๐ Do you know of many researchers with dendrometers in Bolivia/ elsewhere in South America?
temperate, tropical, urban, arctic, all trees are welcome ๐
๐คHi #dendrometer users! You are invited to join our new Dendrometer Network (catchy name still tbd ๐). Online meeting 10:30-12 CET Friday 12 Dec. Please share and let me know if you want to join and I will send the meeting link ๐ด๐๐ณ๐ฒ
Dendrometer workshop in ร s, Norway. ๐ณ๐ด๐ณ
This week Johannes, our dendrometer & -chronology expert, and Martin, who used #dendrometer measurements from @hyltemossa.bsky.social in his BSc thesis, attended the Nordic #DendroNet meeting at @uninmbu.bsky.social organized by @daniellecreek.bsky.social
& visited the @icos-ri.eu station #Hurdal
Thanks for having us! Had some great exchange and inspiration by fellow #dendrometer nerds, and my most expensive beer ever in the beautiful city of Oslo. It was definitely worth it.
An absolutely amazing 2 days of nerding out about #dendrometers! I'm feeling so inspired by everyone's research!! Looking forward to seeing where we can take #DendroNet . โ๏ธdrop me a message if you want to be kept updated ๐ค๐ณ๐ฒ

Sampling needle water potentials in #Norwayspruce at the Hurdal @icos-ri.eu site in #Norway. It's been a warm and dry start to the year so curious to see how the trees are doing ๐ค๐ฒ

One of the biggest challenges of working in a mature forest is sampling leaves from the canopy- view taken from 20m up in a #norwayspruce forest ๐ We are sampling for pigments and LeafPsi to document the warm and dry conditions in Norway. Credit to Mathias Amundsen for climbing ๐ช and video
๐ชงCalling all researchers working with #dendrometers. The #NordicDendroNetwork is holding its first meeting 13-15 October in Norway. For more information and registration go to >>> shorturl.at/HqoFY

Hi Bob, it's tricky to manage since both point dendrometers require you to drill into the tree, it's hard to know if this will create artifacts in the growth, hence the offset. Then if we keep them in alignment but increase the spacing, it may well also result in different values! Insights welcome!
This is quite opportunistic so only one species (and also, its Norway so Norway spruce ๐ ). We should definitely compare results though, I think there are others too that have multiple types on the same tree. Definitely worth some investigation!
That's still super powerful data! I just saw a dataset from those type of dendrometers read every 2 weeks for 10+ years and they beautifully document tree decline before mortality (the work involved though ๐ฑ)!
That's the plan!
What others are out there? #dendrometers #howmanyistoomany #PREDICT
Europe's most northern beech forests can be found in South-Western Norway ๐ณ๐ด. We are setting up some new monitoring sites of tree growth and drought stress in these beautiful forests #PREDICT #dendrometers @linenybakken.bsky.social
And yes, rainfall exclusion!
Hi Andrew, unfortunately we are only a small team so there is a limit to what we can measure (collaboration always welcome ๐) but we are at least planning to assess overall tree condition including an assessment of cone production. Do you have any protocols that you could recommend? Cheers!
Spent the week installing #dendrometers and #climate sensors in southern Sweden where we are looking at the impacts of chronic drought on Spruce๐ฒ health, soil ๐ฆ ๐โ๐ซ and bark beetle๐ชฒ attack. #sapflow and water potential tensiometers are coming next week! @Maartje klapwijk
It's beginning to look a lot like field season ๐ฒ First deployment of near-real time growth monitoring equipment ( #dendrometers ) happening next week. #PREDICT #BOREALNET #Norway
