Before I left to go back to the US, had a drink with my friends of a 25 year old Port. Tasted like fruit and oak and looked really really nice.
A bottle like that was 25 euro and is considered pricey.
I can believe the claim Portugal has some of the best wine and spirits on Earth.

Also, SuperBock is dang near a religion in Northern Portugal lol. It's like a better Abita or Fat Tire that wasn't an IPA. Their ciders and lemon beer are fantastic too. But with being everywhere like Miller or Budweiser

My wifes hands on the Alfa Pendular train. She is playing a steam deck and drinking a Portuguese cider called Somersby.
Riding to the airport on the Alfa Pendular back to Lisbon right now and even second class is nicer than most Amtrak rides that cost 3 times as much and goes slower because it doesn't tilt.

The irony being that in most of the US, there are scant few playgrounds like this except for a few public parks.
Between anti child jerks like this and the absolute bonkers tort laws in America, can't have anything like this.
Guys like him made this happen

It's been neat seeing how Drones + Lasers + and now the fancy Japanese railgun have changed the game and old 3rd generation warfare countries like Russia and America get caught with their pants down.
Same with the transition to solar, or a electric cars, etc. unequipped for the mid 21st century.

Turns out that sex chromosome abnormalities are as common as natural red hair in a US population and folks can still reproduce and be unidentifiable otherwise.
TERFs and right wing folks already show just how into Eugenics they are, that someone's ability to take part in society is based on quanta

No anonymity and no way to have a company delete your data on request
License to spy on you and sell it to whoever indefinitely, with no way to opt out. What's the point of the First and fourth amendments then if the government can just buy data from corpos and find alternative charges?

You use the open source stuff and they get mad at you too. Because it isn't about the actually LLM, they want you to stroke off a hyperscaler oligarch more than anything else.
It's all the goal to end this whole democratization of tech movement into "You will have nothing and you will like it"

FPTP is a way to give a leg up to parties that have a significant base but compared to the total population would never win a dog catchers contest.

The stuff necessary to make an AI tool that isn't complete ass or will drive someone mad is so hard that you have to hire a human dev just to understand what the hell the thing is trying to do.
Or be suss of all the output it makes. Something the average person is completely unequipped for.

Reading this as well as thinking about the ramifications for the software industry and how this would chill open source development from California, makes me wonder the Constitutional ramifications.
Like in any reasonable scenario, the courts will never accept this.

A funicular in Porto Portugal. Note the funny accordion. It's to address the grade of the hill not being uniform. It goes alongside one of the middle age walls
Can't spell Funicular without Fun! Was neat to ride on, and much better than climbing my ass up the hill.

I have met so many American expats and folks from other places and I think that if I could do things right I could prosper in a way that I don't think I can in the US anymore. And act as a bridge for others I know to make the jump too.

Porto Portugal over the Duro river from Villa de Gaia. Early March but an otherwise very nice day out. Pleasant temperatures and dear friends
I didn't realize until I got over to Europe for my visit over the last few days that my mental health would improve so much so quickly. Or my physical health.
I hope eventually I could make a home for myself here. Guess I need to see. Will be back in Seattle come next week. For now, pictures!

Computers that ain't shackled to a corpo is now illegal in the state of California. Also devs having to build an entire infrastructure into the OS to stop a problem that doesn't exist for people who don't understand how a computer works.

From a blue on blue attack at that. All would have been avoided if US pilots would use their damn transponders and talk to allied ATCs instead of disrespecting their airspace like mad.
US military has had a problem with that for decades, it's a cultural problem at this point.

Stuff Trump keeps making actively worse with tariffs, corruption, and not understanding the first thing about industrial policy.
But nobody who follows this stuff is surprised this is happening. The US military is too large to support with the current economy

All the money in the world won't stop when your industrial capacity has degraded to the point that even if you wanted bombs every day, you have to have all the supporting industry, precursors, and educated workforce, and in the right places
Things the US keeps losing due to bad industrial policy

Plus the whole incident when the plant in TN exploded.
And don't get me started on the educated workforce for making munitions.
Industrial policy: something the US has been bad on since the end of the second world war and Trump is super bad at.

Physically can't, the industrial capacity in the US is degraded so much.
The AI boom + tariffs on steel and concrete + admin going after undocumented folks + huge lead times to actually make manufacturing equipment means it's very difficult to actually build any factory, let alone munitions.

I'm still trying to figure out, is CBP not using an IFF? Flying without transponder? Not even clearing the flight plan with DOD? Because thats how you get friendly fire incidents.
Cops shouldn't be wearing masks and law enforcement vehicles shouldn't be going around without a transponder on.

Old school Unix folks upset with how tightly integrated it is and they had to change their scripts up.
Something irrelevant because osx uses LaunchD and has evolved to be similar, so all modern Unix-likes have something like it.
Old guys mad times have changed.
