Thanks for sharing, Ben. The Leung et al study with @jeffrethane.bsky.social and @greening.bsky.social is a cracker! It was nice to be asked to comment on it.

Cutting methane emissions is sometimes called the climate βemergency brakeβ
- But a @unep.org report at #COP30 today shows the world is not pulling it: emissions are still rising (tho at a slower rate)

My colleague @avnimalh0tra.bsky.social is hiring a Postdoctoral Research Associate to investigate rhizosphere processes influencing methane (CHβ) dynamics in northern peatlands! Super cool opening -- please circulate careers.pnnl.gov/jobs/11061?l...
Join us at the University of Birmingham to take up one of these prestigious positions. Very happy to have a private conversation with those interested and with specialisms in forest science, methane, wetlands or related areas www.birmingham.ac.uk/jobs/125th-a...
Excellent!!
Congratulations Yadvinder!
Fantastic paper from Loft, @ymalhi.bsky.social and others. The ecological energetics approach offers a way to better integrate animals into Earth system modelling of major biogeochemical cycles, as well as yielding important insights on ecosystem function as laid out by Yadvinder, below.

Very nice! All the best with your measurements!

And the specially commissioned balloons? Do they take returns for Miss-Royaling?
Terrible isnβt it? π Iβll go and ruin other peoples celebratory element days now.

Can we expand the narrative and definition of human development to include flourishing with nature? Our new paper in Nature explores such a vision, and outlines a metric - the Nature Relationship Index - to sit alongside the Human Development Index.

Increased atomisation as we move from synchronous (chatting) to asynchronous means of communication. Real moments in time are no-longer shared with simple conversation. I find it a bit sad.

1/5 Why do all non-Africans descended from a group that left Africa 50k ago? In @nature.com we model 120k years of human niche dynamics. From 70ka, a big expansion of the human niche in Africa likely equipped later OOA dispersals with a unique ecological flexibilty.

A brief thread of what we found π§΅
The new global methane budget is now out! Seems to gloss over the measured 25-50Tg sink term in upland trees that was recently discovered (= or > to soil sink & prob more subject to change). Possibly because itβs not yet been included in models the authors use. Observations do matter thoughβ¦
