Are you anywhere in the world (other than Canada) and want to do a PhD in my lab in Canada at Queen's University? We have a prestigious scholarship for 3-years of PhD funding. Get in touch, applications due early February. Must love plants and evolution!

yes! I think that Ingram spark mainly sell it to bookstores, so you can ask your local book store and they might be able to get it from them.
I am learning about all this, so if you try, please let me know!

Inclusion is good for science and for people. There's really no excuse not to work towards this.
Some empirical evidence that diversifying editorial boards benefit journals via impact on reviewer selection. Nice work @martin-nunez.bsky.social

last paragraph of the abstract: Synthesis and applications. Our results show that editorial diversification is a practical lever for making peer review more inclusive and better aligned with the global distribution of ecological research. These changes make the publication process fairer and improve the quality and global impact of the papers published.
New paper, Great news:
We have been saying for years that making the editorial board more diverse was needed
We now show that diverse team of editors makes for more diverse reviewers
More Inclusive=Better Science

It's been such a pleasure to work with @josbarlow.bsky.social on the Senior Editor team of @jappliedecology.bsky.social for the last 3 years. A monumental changing of the guards but we are in good hands with the wonderful @martin-nunez.bsky.social as our new Executive Editor.
Itโs a reversal of Pavlovโs classical conditioning experiment. In Pavlovโs setup, Pavlov rings a bell before feeding a dog; eventually the dog drools at the bell alone, and Pavlov records the response. The joke is that the dog claims it has conditioned Pavlov: โas soon as I drool, heโll smile and write in his little book.โ In other words, the dog frames Pavlovโs predictable behavior (observing and taking notes) as Pavlovโs conditioned response to the dogโs drooling, flipping who is controlling whom.
studying behavior is very challenging...
