For a bunch of reasons, I need seriously invest in just doing my own thing artistically. Being involved in others people's projects is cool but there's something nice about spearheading something yourself.

I think the constant pursuit of making tournaments bigger and "better" was always going to lead to something like this. We're already seeing the consolidation of regional tournaments into a handful of majors including EVO. I can only imagine how much worse in other countries.

Putting aside the elephant in the room, there's no way 10 Evos a year will be sustainable in the long term. Best case scenario is that they scale back dramatically in the years after. Still sucks cause it will devastate local scenes in regions with no majors on that level

In the 9 years I've been doing music production/composition, the most interesting music I've heard has often come from people making music with no budget or very close.

While there is some privilege in being able to invest time into music, you'll have a skill for life which is worth it imo

it’s an obviously silly argument as any musician knows that budget is never the prerequisite. time and passion are, and ai tools are marketed to people with no time and inhibited passion
