Australia urgently needs to get serious about long-term climate policy – but there’s no sign of that in the election campaign The election campaign must prioritise climate policy to ensure the next government drives the transition to a clean economy in a world upended by Donald Trump.

Australia's government will be returned, probably with a sizeable majority. The road for principles-based, ambitious climate policy should be open.

There's much to do to drive the clean transition, and it can be done - if we boldly grasp the opportunities.

Telling about the lack of vision, or fear of big issues, in AUS federal politics:
Asked what would be the one standout signature policy change (like historically the floating of the dollar or the GST), Albanese nominates affordable childcare, and Dutton the east coast gas reserve.

Why coalitions of wealthy nations should fund others to decarbonize Failure to agree on global grants to help low- and middle-income countries to achieve net-zero emissions cannot be the end of the story. An urgent solution is needed.

Climate change messaging has a positive effect, across many different groups in different countries. Big study. But, does public opinion about the importance of climate change translate into climate action? Amidst worry about cost of living and geopolitics?

It's also very large: in 2024, PIK researchers published over 400 articles in peer-reviewed journals, and total citations to PIK papers topped 55k during that year.

Plenty of pathbreaking work is done at PIK. Often with big impact in the research community, and on public policy and public perceptions of climate change, approaches and solutions.

We review progress and discussed future plans. One might expect consequential changes to what matters in climate policy research, as a result of geopolitical rupture.
