kinda wild that, of the three governments involved, it’s the one that freely admits it’s a totalitarian theocracy that’s like “hey guys, can we dial back the divine destiny stuff and maybe just sit down and talk a bit?”

And what’s the state party doing with it?

honest question. I live in Davis county. the Davis county Democrats are quite frankly embarrassing. I’ll blame myself for not getting involved, and might be fixing that soon, but after SL and Summit Davis should be the Dems top Utah target of opportunity.

If they aren’t I’d say they’re as stupid as Dems have been. The ossification of the urban/rural partial divide was not just some natural phenomenon, it was a strategic choice. Also, note I said “at some level”. doesn’t have to be the DNC or DCCC. could be the state party supporting local candidates

honestly though the Democratic party, at some level, has to start investing in these races and these communities. The Democrats top down approach to political influence and messaging has just been one continuous catastrophic failure of underperformance and dysfunction.

Until the baseline public response is "I am certain this initial thing you are telling me is false," the lying will continue

And we will never get to that baseline response because there are legions of people who masturbate to the thought of armed government thugs shooting people they don't like

Not to repeat myself but: DHS lies brazenly because lying brazenly works

It's what police depts around the country do on a regular basis when they have unfavorable facts. Honed to perfection, amplified by media stenographers.

Recall, this is how they initially described George Floyd's murder:

my son likes to joke that Nintendo is the most actively hostile “fuck you, gamers, you’ll like what we want you to like and buy what we want you to buy” gaming company on earth, and they are very good at it.

The idea they would sue the government for anyone’s benefit but their own is pretty funny.

I foresee a future where you have a collection of chatbot “friends” with different personalities and situations when you use them

Grok is that friend you call when you want to get fucked up and blow off some steam. you’re embarrassed to tell any of your other friends you hang out with grok

Same thing as literally everything MAGA does.

Culture and winning the culture wars.

The voting laws aren’t even really about voting. They’re a trojan horse for federalizing elections because the big lie can’t become the big reality without that control.

this is actually great news because it SHOULD help solidify Dem opposition to it.

Receipt checking and TSA literally the same skillset

The Federalist is, in many ways, less serious than The Onion. So I would say any time it rises up from banal gutter propaganda to unintentional comedy worthy of a “not the onion” award is something of an accomplishment.

See, here’s the problem.

They don’t actually give a fuck about Democracy. Specifically MAGA, who’s about 30-35% of America right now, and more generally the fascist/christian nationalist right who has always been a large minority in America.

In fact, democracy is their enemy.

Hope this helps.

I’m putting the probability that Taiwan is still an independent nation at the end of Trumps term at ~15%

ok wait. wait wait wait

So the plan was to do regime change in Venezuela to install a puppet government to exploit Venezuelan oil and then start a war in the middle east to drive up the price of oil and force the world to buy oil from venezuela?

That’s your fucking plan, really?

i wanna be extremely, unambiguously clear here

if you are a man, and you feel a sense of validation or empowerment from things like that "I am the danger" clip

you are a weak and cowardly man

I would absolutely die laughing if the Jazz finished 5 or 6 and still got bumped all the way down to 9 and lost their pick anyways after all this bullshit.

honestly no point in chasing lottery ball’s at this point. as long as they are in the bottom six their odds of winning the lottery barely change between worst and 6th worst

This is just pickup ball now. Not a lick of D, everyone just playing for the hype and nobody giving a fuck who actually wins except for as another chance to get some hype

Ya, super duper long shot. but in dem +15 and running against Phil Lyman environment I gotta believe the right candidate has a punchers chance

05.03.2026 22:41 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

I guess that depends on what you mean by “solve”. If you want to solve people’s behavior regardless of actual motive then you either have to address the behavior itself or you have to solve all the motives.

Just assuming malice seems like a bad way to approach either.

05.03.2026 21:21 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

See and I agree there’s a problem of accountability for harm, specifically for the the wealthy and white and male, but I disagree the solution is simply assigning malice as the default motive and acting accordingly.

I think punishing the perpetrators for harm regardless of motive is the solution.

05.03.2026 21:06 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0

And I think malice as an explanation is used to create motive and reason for harm whether it not it exists and when no such assignment of motivation or reason is necessary, and that it serves the same function as the assumption of stupidity in creating separation.

05.03.2026 20:58 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

you’re kind of confusing me here. You think consistency and clarity is incompatible with stupidity?

My son, who’s gen z and so much fucking smarter than me. described Rogan as “a barbarian king holding podcast court. A man of at best average intelligence but significant power and influence.”

05.03.2026 20:50 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

ok, so, if Lyman wins the primary do we got a Dem candidate lined up to make this thing a contest?

05.03.2026 20:43 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

I mean, he is some dumb maybe curious guy well into his 50’s.

The idea which is the problem here is the literally millions of Americans who truly believe having many followers and/or $$$’s and a compatible world view to themselves simply can’t be stupid and so criticism is just invalid by default.
