After the Crew-11 Dragon capsule passed, heading southeast toward its splashdown off San Diego, it still glowed white, but the red color was gone. A contrail of smoke behind the capsule disappeared quickly. The whole thing lasted maybe 30 seconds.
From San Jose, watching the Crew-11 Dragon capsule re-entering was spectacular—my iPhone pics don’t really do it justice. While the capsule approached from the northwest, the capsule’s heat shield was facing toward me and glowed a bright roadside-flare red.

I was able to watch NASA’s Crew-11 Dragon capsule re-entering the atmosphere a few minutes ago. The capsule splashed down off San Diego a few minutes later.
