Also, I must admit the photo on this is from 1988 and you'd never see a Dublin street scene like this now. This alley is now probably either ludicrously expensive micro-houses or somewhere where the Dublin branch of Meta stores its bins.
I was literally thinking this last night, when I had washing that was 85% dry from an outside line and wished I had a hot press to finish it off in
The Irish hot press is a great way of drying clothes and we should all have one.

thanks for the share!
Yes, you'd be shocked if the PP were in favour. The ambivalence lies in no one seeming to greatly credit the city for the decision, whether they approve or oppose it. That places those responsible in a disappointing position (for them) that hardly incentivises future action.

While the main decision happened 2 weeks ago, it's worth catching up with Barcelona's fight over the Casa Orsola - which the city is buying to stop displacement - because it echoes so many debates elsewhere, and shows some unintended effects of anti-Airbnb rules.

I'd love to be using this site more often, but I've been locked out for weeks because the forgot password button doesn't seem to work. Luckily, I've just remembered the occult thought process behind my password's creation.
"The churchβs condition is immaculate and singularly faithful to its pre-fire self, following a huge effort that has harnessed the wealth of its countryβs business elite and the uncompromising expertise of Franceβs craftspeople." @feargusosull.bsky.social: www.bloomberg.com/features/202...
I'll be honest, I often don't feel strongly about where the Parthenon Frieze should be displayed (although the answer is Athens) because I am too busy being horrified by the main character syndrome that leads British people to still call them the Elgin Marbles.
Before writing this, I didn't expect to be moved by the story of Notre Dame's reconstruction. In the end, I was blown away by the quality and thought that went into all the craft work. In many ways, this church that has had so many vagaries during its long life has never been treated so sensitively
Her attempts to become a national presidential candidate, meanwhile, went very badly. Bowing out after two terms in Paris might be the most prudent way to protect her legacy.
Popular city mayors can survive their parties' decline at national level, but it's always tough - and Hidalgo's policies are partly shaped (not necessarily in an unhealthy way) by the Greens and Communist minority partners in her coalition, without which it would not be tenable.
Hidalgo represents a party, the Socialists, that have been substantially eclipsed nationally. Balanced between the centre and the left, the party now leads neither political sector. It's the fourth largest party in a National Assembly it dominated for decades.
That's not a criticism per se, it just reflects how city elections often hinge on wider domestic pressures that international observers are less aware of or interested in.
It is true that Hidalgo's international prestige has not been matched equally by local popularity for a while - she won a second term mainly because her main opposition imploded.
With the news that @annehidalgo.bsky.social is not running for another term, here's a reminder of the next step her greening plans for Paris are taking.

thank you! I'm not sure I have a huge amount to say right now, but quite nice to be somewhere so peaceful.
