To be vague, my health is a wreck in ways that have required some intense dietary restriction (& resulted in associated issues) and I just can’t imagine doing something like that/this if I didn’t absolutely have to.
Can second this as someone with a *load* of dietary/immune issues right now. I can’t eat the vast majority of restaurant foods (& even frozen foods/ready meals). And it’s never clearer how much food is THE default Social Activity until that happens.
It’s nice when you have a weird medically-necessary diet & there are more options available to you that weren’t before, but it sucks when the reasoning is “a bunch of people are probably making themselves sick in new ways trying to get healthy.”
For most people, it’s just good old fashioned malnutrition, which is why people talk about regaining weight the minute they stop keto. That’s the kind of thing that tends to happen when you deprive your body of vital nutrients & then start eating them again.

And when I say intractable, I obviously mean “a *last resort* for doctors after all the meds they can chuck the child’s way don’t work.” And *if* you’re on keto for a medical reason, that also means there’s a doctor making sure you’re not going to get organ damage.

The popularisation of the keto diet will never not be weird to me, given was designed specifically as a medical diet for intractable pediatric epilepsy and that remains the group for whom it’s most effective. For most people, it’s overly restrictive & potentially dangerous.
