yep yep yep. eventually, number-go-up reaches a point where the numbers are moot bc they're so stupid high and nothing is challenging anymore. its a finite endpoint for play, which i do actually like! but once u master the system, it gets boring. people dont just want number-go-up, they want a STORY

read the whole thread, bestie ur so real for this. i've been railing against "number go up" TTRPGs as story engines for YEARS. my problem is most of my irl best friends WANT that crunchy "number go up" feel for their games, so i end up playing them anyway, but that's not really a system problem
