Aye I'm doing alright! Since this happened I've gone to Rotterdam with partner and had a good time, which was very healing.

Anyway the rest of the evening passed relatively normally. The doctor, who I think was maybe 13-14 years old was good and helpful. Apart from a long chat with a Sikh guy in the waiting room about imperialism and the role of Indian troops in WW2, it was fairly uneventful after that.

My dad is baffled. "That was really bizarre", he says.
"Oh, that? I mean it's pretty nostalgic in a way, I haven't really been talked to quite like that since I was younger and less good at coping. People used to talk to me like that all the time as soon as I said I was autistic."

I was definitely quite irritated at this point. I feel like if I had walked into A&E after a breeze block fell from a building site and onto my head, we probably wouldn't be discussing the intrinsic worth of architecture.

For those who might not know, Chris Packham is a UK naturalist and TV host, does a lot of nature and climate work, he's autistic. Cool guy. But not especially relevant to my current situation.

There was a big sticker on it saying "don't sit on the leg section", so I jokingly told him to move. He chuckled and did. WN smiled, almost beatifically,

I'll add at this point that because I was knocked a bit loopy, my speech was a bit weird and slurry, though I was perfectly lucid.

There was a bit of a mood shift. The Whisper Nurse got more smiley and more whispery.

One of them was a constantly suprised looking young woman, the other was a middled aged polish woman who seemed to only speak in a whisper and was constantly smiling pleasantly.

So I had a meltdown recently for reasons that I won't go into. Suffice to say it was a rough one, and I hurt myself quite badly, badly enough that I was told to go to A&E by the non-emergency number.

I went there as instructed, and was triaged by a couple of nurses. Standard.

We have a political discourse where the worth of your philosophy is determined solely by its proximity to a fairly young status quo.

We live in a modern nadir of political education, in which the fundamentally ideological nature of everything can be disputed by ostensibly serious commentators.

"Populist" is a term used mostly to further the fiction that we have two choices - pragmatism or ideology, and that people like @zackpolanski.bsky.social are idealists in a way the Labour right are not.

But the status quo is an ideology. It's the ideology of Thatcherite corporatism and inequality.

The choice is stark. Reform are the party of foreign wars and high bills.

The Greens want de-escalation and energy security through renewables. Solar and wind prices don't fluctuate when rogue US presidents launch illegal bombing campaigns.

I entered uni the year before the new fees came in, but I also took 6 years to finish my degree. As such, I have no idea how much I owe and just assume I'll be paying it off forever.

At least I don't *think* I have the same level of predatory interest, but its not something I care to check.

"I can't fix the world." Nobody said you could. But you can go be in community with others and find solidarity.

Its actually not an unpleasant thing to do and is also quite healthy for the world and the soul.

I saw a post defending escapism (ok, sure, it has a place), and the replies were filled with "yes thank you! I ignore the world and never interact with my communities or do anything to help anyone and I'm tired of being guilted."

We all have our limits and people should unplug, but come on now.
