Actually Quercus Berberidifolia (California scrub Oak) will handle zone 7. But I do agree with your idea of looking for local natives first. I'm also surprised that you have zone 8B / 9A in BC. I'm in the SF Bay area and I'm in 9B. I have ~300 Oaks in my backyard of many species. Most are evergreen.
Have you considered Quercus Berberidifolia (California scrub Oak)? Or any of the other shrub/scrub evergreen Oaks that are native to California?
The berries can also be used in cooking. They are a great enhancement to sauces.

This is so true. It is all a distraction. By picking groups that we'll have a hard time defending themselves, piling on false claims, they are uniting uneducated masses using hatred.

I agree with Schwarzenegger that we should not be gerrymandering, but I think he is misguided in aiming his efforts against Newsom instead of Abbott and Trump. We need to stop this corruption at the source.
