A self-portrait, pastel I think, of a young white woman, without any allusions to the act of painting, but more like looking at herself in the mirror. She is wearing a dark, modest dress with puffed shoulders, and she's holding nonchalantly a lit cigarette in her hand. The smoke creates a clever meta-effect with the mirror or window or painting's frame, transcending to its outer layer.

Dora Wahlroos (1870 Pori – 1947) was a Finnish painter who participated in the painting movement en plein air towards the end of the 19th century.
