A concrete thing every UK person who cares about trans rights can do right now:
1. Email a link of this report to your MP, with highlights from the executive summary in your email. Ask them what it means for your constituency and their party - highlight trans people's legally mandated human rights
This is why Pride still matters. Because people in power are actively working to delegitimise our existence. Because institutions that are meant to protect human rights are now being weaponised to question whether we ever deserved them in the first place.
If someone had said this about any other group there would be national outrage. But when it’s trans people, it gets framed as "reasonable debate."
This is government backed gaslighting. It is the justification of a rollback. It is how oppression is framed as fairness and how stripping rights gets sold to the public as "balance."
Let’s be clear: this is not just a bad take. It’s a threat. It’s a declaration that trans people—already some of the most marginalized in society—have supposedly been given too much, and now must be put back in their place.
This was said by Akua Reindorf, one of the eight commissioners at the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC). She blames “trans lobbyists” for this supposed deception. Who even are the "trans lobbyists"?!
They ask why we still need Pride. Then they say things like this:
“Trans people have been lied to over many years about what their rights are. … There has to be a period of correction because other people have rights.”
