Young lizard a few days after birth
Our results show rather negative effects of both constraints (nocturnal warming and food restriction) on pregnant females but independently and not on the same biological parameters. On the contrary, baby lizards seem to benefit from the maternal acceleration of gestation !
Latest piece of work in @funecology.bsky.social under the direction of Théo Bodineau @ieesparis.bsky.social. We studied the effects of nocturnal warming on the gestation speed and homeostasis of a lizard as a function of the quantity of food resources.

Un travail financé par @agencerecherche.bsky.social et effectué avec mes collègues Sandrine Meylan et @pdevillemereuil.bsky.social avec l'aide des équipes du CEREEP-Ecotron @cnrs.fr
Nos résultats montrent plutôt des effets négatifs des deux contraintes (chaleur et restriction alimentaire) sur les femelles gestantes mais indépendamment et pas sur les mêmes paramètres biologiques. Au contraire, les bébés semblent tirer bon partie de l'accélération maternelle de la gestation !
Lézard mort probablement de malnutrition et de déshydratation au Chili
Les modèles prédisent un "effondrement métabolique" quand les températures sont trop élevées par rapport aux ressources. Une accélération de la gestation serait donc plus difficile en présence d'une alimentation restreinte et pourrait être fatale pour la mère ou ses descendants !
