It was a great day out and some unexpected finds for the 'Fen Edge' - my group had crazy amounts of mistletoe Viscum album, various shades of violet Viola odorata, meadow saxifrage Saxifraga granulata and 3 Scilla species plus a hybrid around Stow Bardolph churchyard.

#Saturdayspider time. I finally found a 'Garden centre spider' Uloborus plumipes. An old world species which seems to have made itself quite comfortable in the house plant section of my local garden centre.

I could try and say something relevant, topical, profound even on the general state of everything. However what I feel I need is a small, purple, Sea Lavender Weevil. So here it is. #Nature

It’s an Inkcap in the genus Coprinellus, perhaps C. domesticus or a related species, but there are quite a few and they usually require microscopic examination to confirm them.

Would you be able to have a word with folk at NWT to encourage them to start a Bluesky account? It seems a shame that the many Norfolk wildlife enthusiasts here aren’t hearing about the fantastic work and events of the trust directly.

Centenary | Norfolk Wildlife Trust During 2026, we're hanging the bunting out as we celebrate our 100th birthday! To mark this memorable year, we invite you to celebrate with us as we continue to support Norfolk’s nature to thrive.

Happy 100th Birthday Norfolk Wildlife Trust!!! On March 6th 1926, Norwich doctor Sydney Long saved Cley marshland "as a bird breeding sanctuary for all time". So began the county Wildlife Trusts: 2,600 reserves, 945k members; local nature & people together.

What do this ancient oak, this swallowtail, this natterjack have in common?

1) They live on Norfolk Wildlife Trust reserves.

2) They benefit from people buying This Wild Dream. ALL profits go to NWT (nothing to me).

Help us celebrate NWT’s centenary TODAY www.thebookhive.co.uk/product/this...

NNNS has a photographic group that holds talks once a month over the winter period so that Society members with a particular interest in wildlife photography can meet. On Tues 10th March 2026 it's the last meeting of the 2025/26 season, and its a 'show your own' theme.

It’s #WorldBookDay so botany friends, what is your favourite book? For me it’s Sell & Murrell’s epic Flora of GB&I. I came to it late, with the publication of the final vol (vol 1) in 2018. I was already into Rubus but elucidated critical botany for me & enabled recording fine scale diversity.

Lasiorhynchites cavifrons, a beautiful hairy beetle I found underneath an Oak tree. At a glance it looks black but it has a strong blue metallic colouration, although in the photos this has come out looking more green than blue (the specimen is very definitely blue, hardly green at all). A Nationally Scarce species apparently.

A Birch Leaf Roller, Deporaus betulae. A smart black weevil which, despite its vernacular and scientific names suggesting an association with birch, is also associated with alder and hazel (this one was on hazel).

A Hazel Leaf-roller, Apoderus coryli, one of just two British members of the family Attelabidae.

The elongate black head is separated from its bright scarlet body by a narrow neck. The base of the legs are scarlet like the body but the rest of the legs are mainly black.

Many who were around in the 80s & onwards will be sad to hear that Clive Byers has passed away.

I was lucky to spend time with him as a youngster through mutual friends. Always hilarious & upbeat, & the centre of unlimited wild stories. A talented artist & a genuine one-off.
