I just started reading Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison and Iβm already entranced by the beauty and intensity of Ellisonβs prose. I donβt know why it has taken me so long get around to finally reading this book.

Yesterday I heard that my shakuhachi mentor, Yodo Kurahashi II, suffered a severe stroke while he was teaching in New York. He is hospitalized now and has a long rehabilitation ahead of him. I am heartbroken.

Iβm packing today for a trip to Rochester NY. Going there tomorrow for a shakuhachi workshop taught by the great Yodo Kurahashi II who is visiting from Kyoto.

I recorded myself playing βJinbo Sanyaβ on the shakuhachi and posted it on Facebook. I think it turned out well. Iβve struggled with that piece for years but I feel like Iβm finally starting to get some confidence in playing it.
I remember the mmp sci-fi novels from way back when I was a kid. I got them from the local drugstore. They were the first books I ever bought, and they were my gateway into literature and the world of the imagination.
I love my wife and Iβm totally devoted to her BUT I have kindof a celebrity crush and it is Gwendoline Christie.
I like to read biographies of artists, writers, and musicians. I think itβs because Iβm endlessly curious about all the ways that art emerges from human life.
Tomβs Crossing by Mark Z. Danielewski is an amazing, beautiful, and intense book. Iβve never read anything else like it.
