This week is my first @womensinstitute.bsky.social booking of 2026! I'll be at Hockley Village this Friday to talk about THE WALK, the Irish mother and baby home and the amazing women who bravely shared their testimonies.
If you're a member (or have a friend who is!), I'll see you there!

I really enjoyed my first term of my PhD in Creative Writing at Essex - here's what it's all about and what I've been up to!

I feel like weβre living in a dystopian novel so dystopian that even if Huxley, Orwell and Bradbury had collaborated on a book, the three of them together couldnβt have dreamt this shit up.
Happy New Year gang! I'll be speaking at four branches of the Essex @womensinstitute.bsky.social in 2026 (so far). I absolutely LOVE these kind of bookings, I can't wait to see you there to talk all things THE WALK!

THE WALK is about the Irish mother and baby homes of the 20th century, inspired by original journalism by Deirdre Finnerty for the BBC.
It is available in paperback (all good bookshops/online shops, not just Amazon!) ebook and audiobook for however you like your books! 2/2
Pleased to meet you ππΌπ

It's been 18 months since Dad went Home.
This was our final silly joke, in honour of the years of our lives spent not communicating our proper feelings, but exchanging Monty Python quotes instead - as the Lord intended, I'm sure.

I've just published an #article #blog on @linkedin.com about my peculiar life as 'Auntie Emma', the administrator for East 15's Southend campus. It was a lovely job I did for over five years and saw off a great many challenges - and some superstars in the making.

Accessibility of literature is key ποΈ! I'm thrilled that four copies of THE WALK are happily floating around the Essex and Southend library systems, ready for you to borrow.
Support your local libraries! You can reserve a copy online to be sent to the library closest to you.

Women are left behind by a healthcare system that fails to spot the telltale signs of ADHD, says @katbrownwrites.com. If specialist NHS services across England are excluding patients by age or otherwise closing their doors to patients, it will ruin lives www.independent.co.uk/voices/adhd-...
I've been very busy reading lots of fabulous books recently, mostly to defeat my Goodreads 2025 Reading Challenge but also for that little thing I'm doing - the doctorate.
Head over to my Instagram @emmamarns_author to find out what I thought of these, and many more! #BookSky

Wouldn't we all.
Rest in power, wonderful Jane.
I am starting my PhD in Creative Writing at The University of Essex NEXT WEEK! I am so excited. Unbelievably, this is my fourth time enrolling at a university (BA, PGDip, MPhil completed!) and it has been quite a journey - read all about it.

I'm thrilled that four branches of Essex @womensinstitute.bsky.social have already booked me for 2026! I have loved going to meetings with these amazing ladies this year, and I'm thrilled to keep spreading education around The Walk and the tragic history it's based on. See you there! ππππ
Just two more days until my final author event of 2025! (unless anyone wants to book me for another one... π). I'm really excited to see everyone at the Young At Heart Forum up in Stanway, Colchester this week to talk all about The Walk and the history behind it. See you youngsters there! ππ
