Trump’s “Warflation” Has Just Begun If he were trying to increase prices on purpose, would he be doing anything differently?

Get ready for some "warflation": higher prices for oil, gas, food (lots of fertilizer passes through Hormuz), goods made with petrochemicals (umbrellas, shampoo, toys, etc.), and pretty much anything that needs to be transported anywhere.

State Department Is Accused of Slow Assistance for Stranded Americans

NEW: Trump appointees in the State Dept. failed to urge Americans to leave the Middle East even though the US & Israel had been planning their war for weeks. Thousands are now frantic amid missile barrages. Rubio pushed out many veteran diplomats last year. Gift link: www.nytimes.com/2026/03/05/u...

The No-Explanation War The Trump Administration has decided that it need not make a case for military action. In the current media environment, that approach makes a disturbing kind of sense.

Why hasn’t the Trump Administration bothered to justify its war in Iran? “If you never have to explain yourself, you can’t really ever be wrong,” @jaycaspiankang writes. www.newyorker.com/news/fault-l...

The authority that Trump has asserted in taking America to war against Iran is, like many of his other power grabs, an expression of the very tyranny the Framers were seeking to prevent.

“Kings had always been involving and impoverishing their people in wars, pretending generally, if not always, that the good of the people was the object,” a young congressman named Abraham Lincoln wrote in 1848. This was “understood to be the most oppressive of all Kingly oppressions and they resolved to so frame the Constitution that no one man should hold the power of bringing this oppression upon us.” This quote, incidentally, is immortalized on the House’s website, if any members of Congress are looking for it.

The design of the Constitution divided warmaking authority between Congress and the executive to prevent a president to take the country to war by themselves for any petty or self-serving reason. You know, like a king would. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

The secretary of Miami-Dade County’s GOP started a group chat for conservative students — and within 3 weeks, it was filled with over 400 instances of the N-word, Nazi rhetoric and writings of "dozens of ways of violently killing Black people"

A thorn in Trump's side his first term were senators at the end of their careers who couldn't be pressured -- McCain, Corker, even Flake.

I think we're about to see a new wave of those folks, and whatever the motive -- true repentance or shameless ass-covering -- they'll help erode his standing
