Such a lovely response. Thank you again for contributing. That was a very special year for me

I'm very envious of the 53,000 NZers who have never heard of Winston Peters after all these years
Always timely.
Leonardo Da Vinci's La Gioconda or Mona Lisa, a painting believed to be of Lisa del Giocondo, the wife of wealthy Florentine silk merchant Francesco del Giocondo and one of the most famous and beloved paintings in the world It depicts a woman, sitting serene and upright, looking straight at the viewer. Unfortunately Leonardo's painting has been inexpertly altered here so that instead of a young woman looking at us the painting now features the 1983 Official Advanced Dungeons & Dragons toy, The Raging Roper, who is looking bashfully away from the viewer, somewhat lessening the impact of Da Vinci's masterpiece
I Inexpertly Photoshop the 1983 Official Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Toy The Raging Roper into a classical painting until I forget: Day 2
look, we warned you about this, one thing you can never say... that you haven't been told. hope you're happy now

Anders Nilsen's graphic novel Tongues (from Pantheon)
And comics...! Two books that gave me a feeling of vertigo - in the best possible way (Olivier Schrauwen's Sunday & Anders Nilsen's Tongues)
Meghan O'Gieblyn's God, Human, Animal, Machine - I read this a couple of years ago, but have been thinking about it a lot recently (for obvious reasons).
And that is why it's still my favourite superhero film or show ever.
I vaguely remember an episode where he insisted on parking legally in the middle of an emergency.
Both of those rereads are on my list too (soon as I finish this damn PhD lol)!
This is such a great project from #sawcomics. Go take a look and back it if you're able: www.kickstarter.com/projects/saw...
I had exactly that feeling! Seeing original pages is always mind blowing (& kind of empowering, because it suddenly looks more possible for a metre flawed human to do).
Was about to post the same. Gorgeous!
So stoked for this. Comics!!!
2 x Carol Swain is a perfect intro to the elusive, intriguing work of Carol Swain. A road trip reveals troubling truths, and the spectre of war hangs uneasily over a small town. With new introductions and an interview with the artist.

A reminder that Minneapolis-St Paul is where modern RPGs were born, via David Wesely's Braunstein & Dave Arneson's Blackmoor (which became D&D). This month, MN-based @atlasgames.bsky.social is raising money to help Minnesotans affected by ICE's campaign of terror. www.atlas-games.com/news/post?s=...

A highly respectful sketch-portrait of NZ's favourite public servant, with the caption: On a typical day, Hon. Judith Collins, M.P., radiates sufficient hatred to power two medium-sized cities.

This is one for the ages: solid, humane reporting, with an extraordinary, powerful conclusion. It's a keeper.

Comics retailing legend Greg Ketter standing up to ICE in Minneapolis. Yes, that's tear gas. He's 70 years old.
It was a great conversation - fascinating and chilling all at once
Speaking of podcasts, this one by Dan Taberski from a few years ago is very good on the Cops genre: pca.st/podcast/1df3...
Has anyone written on how the Cops "reality" show genre helped create a visual language for ICE's social media videos?
