@wulphram

I am an organic chemist. Carbon is a whore. You must be over 21 (please!) to watch, or I will block you. I am well over 40 years old. Science rules! This is becoming my new "fuzzy" account. I will have to make a new professional account later...

I'm kinda fond of brittle stars and they don't get much press. This is one of the larger more active species. Ophioderma panamense, the Panama Serpent Star. Found on rocky reefs from S. Cal to Ecuador. It has no trouble navigating some red urchins. Lots of tube feet coming out of the urchin below it

A group of about twenty purple and wavy tentacle-like fingers rise from orange fir needles covering the ground. This fungi is named purple spindles for good reason. This group of spindles stands about eight inches tall at its highest.

This weird fungus is Alloclavaria purpurea, better known as purple spindles. They're so tentacley!

Luna cat woke me up at 6am with cuddle demands. She had already been fed by that point by B so it was genuinely just attention she wanted. 20 minutes later and she has gone back to sleep already. I haven’t.

Cats.

Photo: Silky plush medium-ish haired, pink-nosed white and black cow cat stands on a patch of grass that hasn’t seen the sun since October. She’s looking off at something interesting and her black tail is straight up and probably testing wind movements.

My news-to-cat pic ratio is way off. Let’s remedy the issue with a pic of the cutest lil hedge watcher you ever did see - soaking up the sudden spring day in the north. #CatSky #CowCat #CatsOfBlueSky #Hedgewatch

At the dog park, a man had two Labs, an adult and a puppy. When he wanted to leave, he sent the big one to get the little one and bring him back.

That’s the first time I’ve ever seen a Labrador retriever actually retrieve a Labrador.

A monochrome pencil sketch of Coda, an anthropomorphic coyote, as he's freediving. He's wearing a two-piece freediving wetsuit with hood, a weight belt, fins and a mask. His body is facing the viewer, turned very slightly to his left, with his head at the top left of the picture and his fins at the bottom right. Coda's looking to the top right, with some small bubbles close to his face.

Watching @seawoof.bsky.social's freediving video yesterday really inspired me, so here's the coyote himself as he explores the depths.

Happy #MineralMonday from a particularly exhausted cat!

Today I am showing off another old one of mine, an excellent crystals of Vivianite! It is pleochroic and a phosphate so I am naturally a huge fan!

*nods* The rainbow quartz is made of crystals that have been coated, so they /are/ still crystals in there, as are the ones in the geodes :D

I mean, there are exceptions...
Organic crystals exist. There might be a large percentage of "crystalline" areas in some things made from some polymers... makes them clear and brittle more than cloudy and flexible :D
(plasticizers often just disrupt crystal formation)

I mostly just mean that "crystal" has a specific meaning, like a quartz CRYSTAL is different than quartz that's been cut or is massive ( or cryptocrystaline, etc.)
