The videos share parent perspectives as well as videos from partners, the Relational Practice and Black Mothers Matter, to better help healthcare professionals understand the experience.
So it is vital that professionals understand more about their experiences.
The information that formed the basis of the videos was based on the findings of a listening exercise which highlighted the impact of a neonatal stay. This can be compounded by experiences of marginalisation.
Chelsie Letts, Healthcare Engagement Programme Lead from Bliss, is sharing details of their video series for neonatal healthcare professionals about the psychological impact of a neonatal stay.
Babies and families of minority ethnic backgrounds are more likely to have negative outcomes.
Tips include:
- Match your questions to specific needs
- Add a clinical review badge, with the medical expert's name
- Add a video helpfulness rating
- Link to author bio pages to boost authoritativeness
- Include transcripts to build trust signals by making the full content transparent for search
Even short digestible formats need to be credible and trustworthy. Search engines are looking for E-E-A-T:
Experience - grounded in real experience?
Expertise - does the creator have relevant knowledge?
Authoritative - is the creator a go-to source?
Trustworthiness - is the creator credible?
Samuel Beavan, Director, and Dr Puja Mehta, Medical Advisor and Content Manager, from One Vision Health (OVH) are discussing how to tackle declining trust in online information.
Credibility signals matter in health content more than ever as it's a high-risk area.
Videos will be longer. This means you need to break down the information, adds Megan Stansfield, Senior Health Editor @thebhf.bsky.social.
You will need to work with your translator to avoid using medical jargon when you are trying to keep the language plain.
The person signing should be the central part of your video, not just in the corner of your video. Using their hands means you should think carefully about the colours they are wearing for contrast.
BSL is a visual language so the sign for general anaesthetic depends on the way it is administered.
Learnings include:
Allow extra time to finalise the scripts in advance.
The scripts the BHF used needed edits, for example some words take longer to sign, including spelling out names of medicine.
And different groups of BSL users might use different signs - GP is seen as a more old-fashioned sign.
It was a project of collaboration.
4 BSL users and their translators meant a bigger space than usual was needed for filming.
Video editing was done by the British Deaf Association who were able to check the BSL being used. Colleagues who used BSL took the lead on the sign-off process.

The first step was speaking to experts like the British Deaf Association and colleagues who are BSL users.
Key topics were heart attack, high cholesterol and high blood pressure.
- Use generic social video imagery, not real posts or specific myths as you risk amplifying them.
- Stick to on clear decision or misconception per video.
- Turn advice into on-screen actions, with text steps or search bar examples. And avoid clickbait!
- Use numbers or questions - think of a startling statistic, and keep it simple.
- Plain language is vital. And just emphasise one idea at a time. Avoid jargon or long explanations.
- And make your content relatable; find a way to make it relevant. Family chats can be a great format for this.
Her tips include:
- How do we create something that is just as quick to look at and listen to as a lot of the less trustworthy content on social media?
- Script this as a social video from the start - it is not just translating a leaflet. What will stop the scroll?
