This is so quintessentially American. Rather than DO something about school shootings, we punish children who joke about them. You don't think these kids are, I don't know, managing and expressing their fears!?

Head of Mobile at Shopify Too many hobbies - woodworking, ceramics, brewing, electronics - and these days I'm building The Next Great Programming Language π€ My opinions are entirely objective, not at all my own, everyone else shares them.

Look at this from Bloomberg - no mention of ballooning to $35/month after the first month.
I would've happily paid $2 for just this one article- I'm here for a date, not to get married.
I'm refusing to post on X anymore, which really hurts when I see something like this and want to say something:

Anyone who studied functional programming would know that *useState* violates the requirement of "same inputs, same outputs."
I am really heartened to see more articles lamenting the state of front end web frameworks. We could do so much better.

I'm putting my hat into the ring with an Elm-like language and runtime called "Extra" (colinta.com)
@infrequently.org I agree with almost everything in infrequently.org/2024/11/if-n..., but listing Airbnb as a react native poster child is disingenuous. They abandoned it in *2018*. I think you need a newer example. Airbnb has distanced themselves from that article (see "Update" below the fold).
Jamon, I love this, thank you for the reminder that we can just be decent humans and that's enough. It *should* be enough.
Youβll be too young to remember, but there was a time when you could wake up as many as three mornings in a row and not find the world had lost its fucking mind.
being able to hear the wheels on the Sherman tanks squeal on account of no one there is some incredible footage. A+ comedy.
I just watched this video about China's high speed rail.

My current conclusion: it's already far too late for the United States to have any hope of being the next economic super power.
Capitalism, baby. It needs organizations like the FDA and FTC to keep it *at least somewhat* at bay... now? This shit is gonna run rampant.

@jwcartwright.bsky.social Old friend! I saw x.com/JW_Cartwrigh... and WOW! Congratulations, and I can't wait to watch.
I'm excited, humbled, and honored to be a part of this first cohort of new programmers!!

Well I can: it's anti-community, disingenuous, and unnecessary. I hope there are internal voices that are sharing the community's discontent with the leadership team.
I know you're an employee I *thought* that would make you more familiar with the company... sorry for the confusion/mistake.
Is there any response from people internal to Oracle!? This is such a terrible look... and WHY, like, it's just a logo surely this can't be a hot revenue stream. It just looks like a child who isn't willing to share a toy that they *stole* from the school.

I'll be honest I'm hit and miss on "The Reframe" (but I've stayed subscribed, so there's that), but when he hits me he hits hard. This hit this morning:
What's past terrified and angry? Numb I guess.
Let's not get there. This can't be what people want.
I feel very helpless watching this.

My stretch goal for Extra is to output WASM... wish me luck!

I'm starting to code in the open about "Extra", this felt like a great way to kick off my new blog:

The next post will be about a few "throwaway" features that are awesome and every language should have. Eventually I'll talk about how it renders/updates.
Me too, too much of the news falls into that category. I try to pull my head out of the sand, until I can't, then back down it goes.
So often I try to use some new amazing tool (today it's Cline + Claude 3.7) and within a few minutes my reaction is "this is cute, but I have work to do".
The sweet spot for me is still the very narrow-focused "help me write this function + tests" tasks. Agentic? Not quite ready, imo.
Exceptions are out there: Figma is fantastic! Buying in person, yes please.
The repeating phrase for all-things-Internet these days is: mediocre. Google really started this off, circa 2019, when search started to take a huge nose dive in quality. But it's everywhere.
Buying products on Amazon? Mediocre. Accessing a company page on Facebook? Mediocre.
