Disability community event organizers: provide a fucking verbal participation option for Q&A for your events. Some of us use Voice type and it is extremely difficult to nearly impossible to use in the middle of an event where other people are talking so text only Q&A options are not accessible

The concept of "nothing about us without us“needs to be applied more broadly IMO
Also the concept of going at the speed of the slowest person also means meaningful opportunities for CODESIGN and COCREATION for PPL W few spoons
IME the agendas of disability justice spaces are dictated by PPL W enough spoons to work as a professional nonprofit staff W little to know options for meaningful volunteering by community members W far fewer spoons who are also shut out of wider community volunteering/creation opportunities
So now my options are to find a very kind friend who is willing to spend a bunch of hours to help me file my taxes or pay something like $150 to TurboTax or somebody file it for me. Tap reply
The extra fun part is that I've spent weeks trying to find online Volunteer taxprep help BC the IRS VITA Hotline told me there weren’t online options available in my area. I asked local and they called a bunch of VITA sites to ask for ADA Accommodations and were denied.
TIL that the IRS does not allow the free tax prep help program VITA to help with schedule H filing, which I need to do because my Caregiver is a household employee.

Agreed. I've recently tried to attend to conferences where they didn't even do recordings. I was able to attend like one session and had assumed I'd be able to go through the recordings of the other sessions but they don't exist!
PPL seemed to forget the Disability justice principal about going at the pace that leaves no one behind
I keep running more and more DJ community spaces that keep leaving people behind in a variety of ways W no acknowledgement
Like I get that universal access is impossible but y'all can do better
If you're holding a disability justice conference that lasts all day W no meaningful asynchronous participation options or even recordings, you're not holding a disability justice conference
Kind of getting fed up bye suppose DJ community spaces clearly run by PPL W way more spoons than many of us

OFC the main reason I actually was trying to participate was that The visual interpretation service I use gives a 20% discount to NFB members…I'll do a bunch of stuff for a discount but apparently I'd draw the line at the fucking Pledge of Allegiance lol ESP with everything going on
Apparently their code of conduct etc. was not set yet and was actually going to be discussed in this meeting but I figured I would probably be the only person objecting too a code of conduct that fucking protects Republicans as if it's the same as protecting marginalized groups
Anyway, I was already apprehensive given the code of conduct that was emailed out ahead of time BC the DEI section listed"political affiliation“as a protected group under the non-discrimination policy including not expressing negative stereotypes
I was in part interested in checking this organization out C BC they apparently do lobbying around issues impacting visually impaired folks
And I've yet to find a disability justice orgy that works on stuff like that
Like I know that mainstream disability organizations aren't exactly up on disability justice but this was a bit much…
And TBH the disability justice community has way few conversations regarding actually fixing broader issues of access e.g. Through political advocacy
I did object to the prayer and was told that I could potentially do a different prayer another day and that they would discuss this later in the agenda… So I thought I would wait it out but then the Pledge of Allegiance happened and I had to dip out
