I figure a lot of it is that he firmly stands up to him, but in a respectful way that treats him like he's smart - so you get that "loves a winner" thing but also the crucial "doesn't make him feel bad" thing

I would say he's deservedly RESPECTED, but when you consider the volume of far better and more significant acts from that period, it's insaaaaane to put him ahead of them all

a few other 90s acts far more worthy and significant than Buckley who have not been nominated: Bjork, Tori Amos, PJ Harvey, Hole, Liz Phair, Alice In Chains, Pixies, My Bloody Valentine, Weezer
again, a flawless discography comprised of one mid-tier 90s record - meanwhile, they don't have Pixies or My Bloody Valentine in there, the Jenga tower of contemporary rock music crashes down without them
if they really want to do something from that period for a "they died" vote, they should do The Cranberries, who are drastically better and more significant

• hard to look at Buckley's nom without thinking they've cut the line on more significant 90s alt acts - like, yr really gonna shut out Pumpkins and Pavement and Sonic Youth for this??
• it is ABSURD to nominate P!nk before Britney
Bomb Squad for 80s, RZA for 90s, Dilla for 00s, Tyler for the 10s
