The president has recklessly forced us into war, and today the Speaker of the House insists said war (that most Americans don’t want) means we must fund a dangerous DHS (that most Americans are rightfully skeptical of).

A Warning About Media Consolidation as We Face Another Senseless War Trump and his allies are working to consolidate the media into the hands of right-wing oligarchs. This is especially dangerous in a time of war.

We need media that tells the truth in times of war. Media consolidation undermines that goal. My latest for @freepress.bsky.social spells out the particular dangers of Paramount Skydance's acquisition of Warner Bros. and calls on state AGs to investigate it.

It’s incredibly important for us to understand that amassing media power into the hands of friendly oligarchs is right out of the authoritarian playbook.

The point is to stifle dissent and one must look no further than the fall out around Paramount’s last merger to see that it’s working.

With the DOJ reportedly ready to waive this merger through, it is imperative that state AGs stand up for their constituents and sue to block this merger.

Media consolidation leads to higher prices, fewer choices, lower quality and censorship.

We need state AGs to step up!

Netflix ditches deal for Warner Bros. Discovery after Paramount’s offer is deemed superior Netflix is ditching a deal to buy Warner Bros. Discovery's studio and streaming assets after the WBD board deemed a revised bid by Paramount to be superior.

Media consolidation is bad for democracy.

A combined Netflix-WBD would have been bad.

A combined Paramount/Skydance-WBD is even worse given Ellison's pattern of offering to censor viewpoints that Trump doesn't like in exchange for regulatory favors.

I’ll also never forget how Rev. Jackson showed up for Latinos and immigrants.

He understood that our struggles are interconnected and modeled solidarity.

May Latinos show up in solidarity with Black folks in his honor.

May we keep hope alive in his honor.

I grew up admiring Rev. Jesse Jackson and, upon becoming a lawyer, was thrilled when the Rainbow PUSH coalition became one of my first clients.

His contributions to our society abound, and I’ll remember his fight against media consolidation and for diversifying our nation’s public airwaves.

Many people of color in the United States understand that our mere presence in mainstream society is seen as “indecent” or threatening by those who wish to silence us.

Fortunately for Bad Bunny, that’s not the FCC's legal standard.
