Bridges taught Hopper structure. Le Pont des Arts (1907) studies span and sky like a grid for light. Hopper would later use this technique to interpret New York rooftops and rail lines.
In "The Grand Tier," Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec captures the essence of Parisian theater culture with vivid colors and expressive brushwork, illustrating elegantly dressed figures engaged in conversation. Reflecting his keen observation of social interaction in late 19th-century France, the painting highlights Lautrecβs unique perspective on the vibrant life of his time.

Before his first major use of the gouache cut-out medium in producing Jazz, Matisse had created complete cut-out compositions that were lithographically reproduced as covers, title pages, or frontispieces for several issues of art journals, the most notable being Verve. The publisher of Verve was Matisseβs Greek friend, TΓ©riade (Efstratios Eleftheriades), who encouraged Matisseβs use of the new medium.
