Indeed, if a poor man will spend a year in prison for stealing out of hunger, how high would the gallows need to be to hang the rich man who breaks the law out of greed?

In the Ramtop Village they believe that no-one is finally dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away, until the clock he wound up wounds down - until the wine she made has finished its ferment, until the crop they planted is harvest. The span of someone's life, they say, is only the core of their actual existence.' Terry Pratchett - Author and humanist #HumanistBookshelf
A great humanist sentiment by author Terry Pratchett for #WorldBookDay. He was our patron and is sorely missed. GNU Terry Pratchett
Yep. It's composed of sets of 4 rings to make a pixelated tapestry of the famous painting. She apparently spent a lot of time hunting down the exact matching thread colors.
Woman stands next to tapestry of Last Supper, Mrs. L. Concistre. Judging by her height, the tapestry is about 5' tall & 8' long.
If anyone has seen this tapestry, please contact the family. It was tatted in the 1940s or 50s & has not been seen since the 1970s. The woman is the tatter who made it & she was about 5' (1.5m) tall.
A cartoon from the 1950βs thatβs more relevant than ever π
My sympathies.
I saw a pattern I thought was really cute (& in vogue at the time). I went to the store to try on a garment like it. So glad I did. Spared myself time & expense for a garment I'd never wear. Not even at home, in private.
And you are free to use or ignore, of course. But the picture in the magazine does not do it justice. I want to do one in white with red beads.
Depends on what you're sewing. My 1st project was very forgiving (t-shaped dress, just had side seam/underarm seam & hems).
Use the cast on for the yarn you are using (whatever loom that is) & use her pattern as a guide. My 1st hat was chunky & my next hat is size 2.
www.ravelry.com/patterns/lib... It's free but I donated money to immigrant support in her name
The recipient loved them. Then noticed they were hand made & was more thrilled.
I just finished my 1st pair of loom knit socks. I really want to try another pair.
Look for Parra's loom knit pattern for it on Ravelry. That's what I used. My 1st try is junior sized (just a bit too small for my adult head).
correction, the pin I made is the Carnation brooch on page 4, with beads added to the chains. archive.org/details/NewT...
Oh, I wish they would. It throws me right out of the story when a character is tatting with bobbins.
This is lovely & my suggestion is an idea for a future year.
Tatted ruffled brooch with beaded chains & a button center
There is a gorgeous one in Antique Pattern Library, but it takes some time to do the outer rounds. I think it's c.1950 & called chrysanthemum. The button is a modern addition to the pattern.
Tablecloth with banner reading Tri-Tatters" in tatted lace letters. There is a display of tatted lace pieces & tatting books.
Some of us are still tatting.
If you want a serious challenge, there are tatting books in the Antique Pattern Library. & if you are considering books, you can get details about them at SomethingUnderTheBed.com (bibliography website)
I attempted aemilia ars today. I was hindered by my lack of any knowledge of Italian. But I want to continue to try this needle lace.
You may enjoy Jane Eborall's website & hhtatting com as both have free tatting patterns.
You will always have some to do (tatting travels well)
Tatted shawl of square motifs; squares alternate setting with half on point & motifs are of 2 different colors
100% correct. This is tatting.

Thank you, that answers my question. You may be able to use your current sewing machine (if you have one) without the pedal. It involves using the up arrow/button. & this person specifically says a computerized Janome machine doesn't need the pedal. www.thesewingdirectory.co.uk/sewing-witho...
Quick question, is it the foot pedal that's an issue or would a side mounted pedal at knee height work? My aunt did that, she fit a bracket to hold her pedal at knee height & was able to press her leg sideways, but this is not a universal solution.

It took me 3 tries before I could remember how to do it. And lesson 1 & 2 were only a week apart. You've got this. Also, have you checked Jane Eborall's website, specifically, the techniques part, for a reminder?
