The tone of Dark Souls takes a very deft touch to recapture; if you were to try with a lot of earnestness but get a bit too much bombast in your melancholy, you land on the Disturbed cover of Sound of Silence, which I wouldn’t say is a failure.
Some APs have more table charisma appeal, and the attendant stories wouldn’t benefit as much from adaptation. Some shows exemplify Jeff Stormer’s framework of AP as creative non-fiction, and that element can’t be adapted. But sometimes we just come up with good plots, and plot can transcend medium.
Not to spin off into a tertiary discussion, but I like to think about how Chicago benefits from the bombast of film production in ways that Cabaret benefits from the grit of everything having to occupy the same physical space.
I think this is one of my pipe dreams, for people working in other mediums how good our shows can be at making stories. Not every show would benefit from adaptation, but some stories would.
Probably have to splash some money over to Soul Muppet generally, and if the show came out well there’d be some noise in favor of making an Inevitable AP adaptation, and that would also be cool.

I know it’s the name recognition, but if they wanted to make a space western that wasn’t indelibly connected to a serial abuser, they could just give, “Orbital Blues AP” a quick google and have some good IP they could pick up for relatively cheap.
Was the hope that we’d get more Firefly but not more Whedon? Cuz I feel like it would probably be better to like… make a new Space Cowboy show at that point.

And it’s important to flag this as a dialogue and not a debate. We’re kind of exploring it in terms of good storytelling, ideological objectives, and in-universe arguments for the nature of divinity at the same time, which is a bit messy.
I think the existence of the wall (and why the heavy machinery that could dismantle it is largely inaccessible to us) is why we have a lot of gods, about a dozen ways to kill them, and an ongoing dialogue between, “Gods should be preternaturally powerful and special” and “No they shouldn’t.”
This is my argument for why Undeath, intergenerational curses, haunting, and memory are load-baring motifs in @gamewoven.bsky.social. We hit that brick wall and have gotten kind of obsessed with who built it and why we can’t unbuild it.

Damn, imagine what they could accomplish if they took the effort they put into attempting to control people and put it into, like, household and personal maintenance, hobbies, or imagining that the people around them have feelings. They could be happy and instead choose a forever war for nothing.
Off topic, but it’s plausible that sure, she’s a brat. Is their supposition that if they were to get their hands on her (ew), she would… stop being a brat? Is that something they’d want? That sounds miserable. Why would you see someone hot and be like, “Damn, I want to destroy what makes the hot?”

Got home from work in time to get my kid out of the bath and help get her to bed. Might watch another episode of The Prisoner, might try to figure out if the driving off route 53 actually is 2 hrs or if it’s accurately assessed at 1.5 and they don’t count the 15min it takes to drive out and back.
Are they still making Barbie movies? Like the ones from when I was a kid, that are basically B-Movies with a bit of jank and almost always like 3-5 really special, incredible things about them?
