When designing a key location for your game/story what are the MOST Important structures/places that you feel must be there to be "Complete"

Might this shift due to the type of fantasy/tone of the game or story your running?

Honestly all of this. I've brought up this topic alot since I have run the gamut of home, public and "convention" games and the idea that "Yes and" should always be the default has been a very frustrating thing given that it comes from improv where on the whole you have trust with your scene partner

People treat rules like they are an active infringement on their life but even in rules lite games (and don't get me started on how troubled that phrase is) there are inherent rules (societal convention) that they are using to shore up the play of their games

Yeah. It's not always doritoes and nat 20s. That said I've had far more good than bad experiences

But ya learn to remeber the bad ones to keep it from repeating

Ibe put a few of my ttrpg experiences up as horror stories in my channel but I've pulled back from that as I didn't want to be overly negative

1/ I think the environment you play in affects what you think works, and we don't talk about that enough.

So the recently-derided "Say yes as much as possible" thing makes varying degrees of sense based on your table.

I'm lucky to play with awesome people whose ideas I love, so I say yes a lot.

I mean they can spend as much as they want but until they rectify and acknowledge their abhorrent past actions I know me and my generation view them as the the disgusting bootlickers that bent the knee to Maga and their ilk

I think they might have better luck spending two thousand dollars holding a press conference where they detail who made the key decisions to collaborate with the Trump administration, how and when they were fired, and explaining what would stop that from happening again.

The thing about all these freak AI execs constantly going "our machine may have gained sentience?!" is that they want slaves. That they are ok with slave labor.

And *then* it always, always turns out their latest AI trick actually used slave labor somewhere in the global south.

They're slavers.

Going to refer back to my "Jenga tower" analogy for rules

Some rules you can remove without any drastic issues, some you can fiddle with if your very careful & some you absolutely cannot touch without it all falling down

Learning what rules have cascading ramifications is very important in design
