That's a battle I'm always fighting, but having to say those things out loud to another person made them take on new meaning for me. I've been reflecting on that conversation A Lot. Thanks for listening to me brain dump about it !!!

It gave me a new appreciation for how corrosive the AI mindset is, and how important it is to be passionate and honest in the face of that bleakness. It's also helped me confront the bottom-line thinking that eats away at me each time I fail to finish a WIP, or when a finished piece is mid

I'm happy to say we both walked away from that meeting with an agreement to make more time in our day to day lives playing with art, just for fun, after spending the rest of the hour until then drawing together and talking about art.

It's just in one world that work and struggle between you and your goal are meaningless friction to be avoided, and in the other world it's what gives the thing you create essence and meaning. It was shocking to see this so laid bare in front of us like that

We had a conversation about art as the act of creation itself and not the final product, and at a point I realized we are both plagued by the exact same insecurities around art--

I ended up soapboxing. Like, what does "better" mean? Perfect values? What does "perfect" mean? Why? Why is the act of creation not factored in? Why is that not the most important thing of all? I really don't think that it had ever occurred to them

The other day, I found myself in a 1 on 1 meeting with a pro-AI-art coworker. They were an artist themselves, but were also so certain and adamant that AI renders art meaningless, or if it hasn't already then it will soon. Because it "can already make art better than me or anyone else"
