How ICE Plans to Put 8,500 Immigrants in This Georgia Warehouse Experts say the initial designs raise health, safety and security concerns.

Don't look away. These camps are unsafe for people's well-being and health, unconstitutional, and a stain on the US. If people want to have a convo about immigration, let's do it. This is not the solution. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

‘Dark, like our future’: Iranians describe scenes of catastrophe after Tehran’s oil depots bombed Residents report terror of smoke-filled city, from potentially toxic rain, air and water to food scarcity and difficulty of escape

“Tehran is burning. And smoke has filled the streets. It’s impossible to drive out of the city right now and even with the windows closed, heavy smoke is making its way inside."

Part of Trump’s mass appeal (and of why he’s so dangerous) is that he really seems to share Joe Barstool’s worldview that there are no complex problems: Everything has a simple brute solution, which previous leaders were somehow too stupid or weak to deploy.

This is 7 times as many children as were killed on October 7. We can't even get a statement of condemnation over this.

Last week, I mentioned this in passing in a workshop:

In 1938 Enrico Fermi won a Nobel Prize for discovering two new elements of the periodic table.

Lise Meitner shortly showed that Fermi was mistaken and instead had produced known lighter elements by fission.

She did not win a Nobel prize.

Al Jazeera cracked this "enigma":

This school had many daughters of military officers and soldiers. The idea was to attract them to the school, strike it to draw in rescuers and relatives, and then strike it again to kill them.

Alabama set to execute man who did not kill anyone Unless Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey intervenes, Charles “Sonny” Burton, 75, will be executed Thursday. He is among thousands in America convicted under a controversial felony murder law.

Sonny Burton is set to be executed by the state of Alabama on Thursday. There is a direct line between a government that murders its own citizens and the devaluing of life abroad. The sin has always started at home.

ICE has spun a massive surveillance web. We talked to people caught in it The Department of Homeland Security, which oversees ICE and Border Patrol, is using a broad web of surveillance tools — purchased as its budget has ballooned under this administration — to monitor, apprehend and intimidate the people it seeks to deport and the U.S. citizens critical of its policies.

These cancellations were so much more horrible for other people than for me personally, as my fellowship was coming to an end. Huge losses to hundreds of people and dozens of long term projects and ongoing relationships. The loss to humanities has been incalculable

As evidence, the filing notes a list Mr. Fox compiled of what he called the "craziest" and "other bad" grants, which he planned to highlight on DOGE's X account. He used three dozen keywords, including
"L.G.B.T.Q.""BIPOC," "tribal, "ethnicity,"
"gender," "equality," "immigration
"citizenship" and "melting pot." (A majority of the two dozen grants deemed "craziest" related to L.G.B.T.Q. subjects.)
In the deposition, Mr. Fox said the list reflected his "subjective" judgment about whether a grant might be out of line with Mr. Trump's executive order.
"Crazy' is one way of saying it," he said.
"Most incriminating' is another way."

Dear NEH Grantee,
This letter provides notice that the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) is terminating your federal grant (Grant Application No. FEL29509824) effective April 3, 2025, in accordance with the termination clause in your Grant Agreement.
Your grant no longer effectuates the agency's needs and priorities and conditions of the Grant
Agreement and is subject to termination due to several reasonable causes, as outlined in 2CFR§200.340.
For instance, NEH has reasonable cause to terminate your grant in light of the fact that the NEH is repurposing its funding allocations in a new direction in furtherance of the President's agenda. The President's February 19, 2025 executive order mandates that the NEH eliminate all non-statutorily required activities and functions. See Commencing the Reduction of the Federal Bureaucracy, E.O. 14217 (Feb. 19, 2025). Your grant's immediate termination is necessary to safeguard the interests of the federal government, including its fiscal priorities. Any objections or appeals to this termination will be managed in strict accordance with the President's Executive Orders,
