It’s fascism as extended adolescence. Just as some children of helicopter parents never learn how to take initiative or manage their own lives, and yearn for a parental figure to do it for them, so do some free-range kids never figure out that it’s time to put down the hose and join adult society.
I was a Tough Unsupervised Latchkey Hose Water Kid, and that kind of upbringing worked out well for me and my sisters. But that’s because we came away from it decently prepared for the rigors of adulthood. That is where the Gen-X reactionary type goes wrong, in my humblest of opinions.
