Heartbreak on the Colonial Front: Women’s Writing, the Seven Years War, and Humanity in the Archive By Thomas Lecaque This article is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Patrick Lecaque, 1/15/1949-10/11/2025, who taught his son the joy of history, of research, of discovery, and to find the individuals…

A powerful look at how women’s writing during the Seven Years’ War reveals the raw emotion, loss, and humanity often hidden in colonial archives. A moving reminder that behind every global conflict are intimate stories worth remembering. @tlecaque.bsky.social ageofrevolutions.com/2026/03/02/h...

You see, this peaked my interest and then I noticed @tlecaque.bsky.social wrote it.

I know what I am reading over lunch.

I miss my father, but I'm a historian because of him, and we can mourn the present while delving into the grief of the past. I wrote a thing about a document I found @mhs1791.bsky.social and about how much the emotional weight of the journal meant to me--give it a read, if you're interested.

Just a reminder of the deep humanist roots @tlecaque.bsky.social brings to his work. This is a good reminder to not lose sight of lived experience in our historical writing. Bravo Thomas!

Neck deep in the final stretch of my book, distracted by griefs of the world & my own & fears, I sometimes wonder what I’ve done studying a form so very present, bloody with vivid, fraught emotion.

@tlecaque.bsky.social reminds me that for all I joke of the “safely dead” their traces move us still.

What if the American Revolution was also a supply‑chain crisis? This post rethinks independence through the lens of logistics, scarcity, and survival—using Nova Scotia (1783–1794) as a revealing case study.

Great short essay. I’ve been working on a transcription project for the Port of Saint John customs house, so seeing many parallels with NS. In 1788, 55 of the 88 non-British ships that sold cargo in SJ were from the US - all carrying foodstuffs.

What did “Terror is the order of the day” mean during the French Revolution?

A new AoR piece breaks down the political pressures, popular demands, & revolutionary logic behind this infamous 1793 declaration—and why it mattered far beyond the guillotine.

This is a fun read. Have to admit I loved the Swamp Fox (but I wasn't allowed to watch much TV except Disney back in the '70s!). (Muppet show + Disney or the Nature of Things was the highlight of my week).

lol I made a last minute choice last Thursday to use the edition of Simms' book because of the image in this thumbnail.

This is a decent piece and, in fact, it identifies a historiographical situation that impacts word choices that I was emailing about *this very morning* glad to have the back up.

We will be awash in sloppy nostalgic representations of the American Revolution this year. That’s why sharp careful analyses of the distance between those representations and evidence-based history is so important.

Also I really appreciate @ageofrevolutions.bsky.social !
