Minecraft - Volume Alpha (RELISTEN): Like anyone else born around the same time as me, Minecraft was unavoidable and eventually my curiosity lead me to try the game that I was pretty obsessed with for years since I've always liked creating things. Naturally, this is not only a soundtrack to a game but a part of my life too and all these tunes mean a lot to me in ways I can't express. I still believe both Alpha & Beta stand perfectly on their own as albums and that they'd probably still hit as hard even if they weren't soundtracks, the only problem is no one would then know C418 and thus I would've probably never heard of him, this would have faded into obscurity like how basically all his other non MC albums, which is a shame because his discography is full of gems and Daniel is a talent up there with greats of his style like Aphex Twin or Brian Eno
Mr Beast (RELISTEN): Not much to say here other than it's been a pleasure finally getting into Mogwai last year as they've turned into one of my most fav bands and this is still one of my most fav albums ever. Friend of the Night is lovely
Under Summer - I have one more EP and then their first release left, I'm really looking forward to their debut but I think I'll try it once I'm in the right headspace for it to click. Loved this though and I kinda needed something like it these days
WYL,YA: Dirty Three have been on my radar for a while, finally listening to them, this is a really sweat and relaxing post-rock album
RoR2SotV: Still haven't played that game, but this guy's the best living musician from my country imo
ethereal kid: A random ambient dreampunk album I found on bandcamp and owned from a code for a while now, it's always great when you connect with an album you randomly discover. I mean it's not much, but it's pretty great for what it is, pretty short too.

I suspect next month I'll be busy and I wont be doing much with music listening or production. But I am thinking about making another album.

TSTNPOTD (RELISTEN): Parannoul's one of my most fav artists, of course I love it, but I admit that of the main Parannoul LPs it's actually my least favorite, prolly because it's the most melancholic of the bunch and generally I believe he improved both musically and lyrically on future albums
HWKB: discovered this on r/postrock's best of 2011, decided to check it out for its 15th anniversary, still no chapter 2, the band seems inactive, which is a shame because this is definitely one of the most underrated hidden gems of the genre, it's so beautiful
DI Go Pop: Brain Go Boom! This could have just released today and I'd say it's incredible but it's from the 90s, finally checked out some DI, need to listen to more
DS: Really ethereal vaporwave with incredible production and atmosphere, one of the best of its genre
IL: Great ambient LP I randomly discovered, it was a good choice to check it out
SotS: Was meaning to listen to Good Looking Blues too today for its anniversary alas I had no time, spacey trip hop
SM: In my head, it's the OST for what happens in the 25 years in between Twin Peaks Season 2 and The Return
Energy111: Great hardvapor and IDM LP
Lushlife: Nocturnal trip hop, much more straight forward than their debut and I presume their 2nd which I still need to listen to
LR: Decided to check Mogwai's OSTs, heard the series itself is also great, I'm sure Mogwai did it justice, it's perfect even out of context
Devotion: BH's a band I was just getting into at some point and I loved them, then forgot about them and now I'm trying to properly get into them slowly, great LP
TDoQ: Great space rock apparently recorded live, sounds so clean
Lily Chou-Chou: Watched the film since I had to as a Parannoul fan, don't think it's perfect but good film, think I like the OST more tho
ASCS: Really want to get into them at some point, nice EP
ToL: Finally getting into more HANL, it's what I'd expect from them
TW: Liked it more than I thought I would, nice
VV: Fairly creative pop

Ravedeath: Knew this is considered one of his best, definitely is, just as great as I suspected, been meaning to listen to this for a long time. Also second time this is happening, listening to In the Fog III it kinda reminded me of my song Rekna, which I obviously wrote before listening to this (and Hecker far before me), they're not that similar but a part of it reminded me of it, the first time it happened was with Chimera on HiUV reminding me my self titled Snow Towers track. Guess we might be sharing the same soul wavelength, only that I suck and he's one of the best of ambient
TCoS: Now that I finished their discography, honestly, I think I can kinda see how they ended up making post-rock after this, definitely more experimental than their previous 2 LPs, also obviously incredible
dustsucker: Also finished Bark Psychosis' short discography, at least the 2 LPs, there's some EPs I want to check out at some point, honestly might like this better than Hex, but both are phenomenal
IML: One of the best synthpop LPs, really good for something from the 80s, doesn't sound dated
DP: More like RD'72, simpler but still great
CR: Incredible song, still not sure if ETK is my fav SL LP, the rest of the EP are nice too
VDP: Another one of telepath's best
Sings: Yep, he does sing and he's great!
SWTGTM: More instrumental jazz, great too!
Standards: Listening to some more Tortoise, another good one
โ˜ฏ: Nice ambient LP
MW Emo: More than novelty, actually great
FU: Crazy ahead of its time, tho some lyrics are... eeh
Kmart: Stupid titles even for vaporwave but nice mallsoft album
AOS: Really short and sweet record
Sunflower Image: Admittedly, I've listened to half of its 6+ hours of runtime, it gets really repetitive and it's not sth like EATEOT that I need to get to the end really, but it is honestly really impressive, just... tiring, maybe it's on me for trying to finish it (and fail) in one sitting.

AOASIME: Thinking about it again, this might probably be the best starting point to get into Explosions in the Sky and post-rock as a whole, but for EITS specifically it's a bit more complex than some of their other stuff, has a darker side like their 2nd LP while retaining the core appeal of the band (and post-rock really) with their bright uplifting crescendos and the emotional punch. Still love it, one of my all time favs, even if it might be slowly falling behind on that list since I think I'm favoring some others over it, potentially the one that's next here. But it's still nearly as good as TEINACDP
As the Love Continues: Their best since Mr. Beast imo, so really high up on my Mogwai ranking, I also adore this album and it's one of my all time favs. Ritchie Sacramento is arguably their best vocal songs and Midnight Flit is an absolute masterpiece. Definitely deserved reaching #1 on UK album charts when it first released, which I'm not sure that has happened to post-rock before
Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will.: Another Mogwai album, also great, really diverse with its styles too, love it
The King of Limbs: While it's still probably their weakest after Pablo Honey, I always thought it's overhated, it's such a great album, love the experimentation and above all its atmosphere. But yeah, I wont lie, the live version is the superior version. But still think it's great regardless

Lamp: Listened to even more from them, still have a few to check. For Lovers has basically kind of become a classic over the years, it's such a great vibe although I prefer Phantasma and maybe even Dream over it. The other one here I love too, feels almost proggy at times, I guess due to how jazzy it is and it has some of their most complex and longer songs
Hex: I've been meaning to listen to this band for a long time, they only have 2 LPs but I'll check out their 2nd another day. It's basically early post-rock and it really gives late Talk Talk vibes and I love this kind of music
Y,YAHIR: Also finally getting into DMST and damn I really loved this, idk if their other works are similar but it felt surprisingly cozy
SftW: Another kinda cozy album here, feels like what the cover looks like, definitely one of their best
GT10: Still need to finish their discography to be sure, but I think I prefer GIAA's later period works, this one's a bit dark and haunting, all the songs have MVs so it's like a film
100th Window: Don't get why it's not praised more, nearly as good as Mezzanine, really blew me away
Atrium: Great liminal space vibe mallsoft
AMoS: Early GIAA so has a more electronic vibe that I love, even if I think that era of the band can feel samey sometimes, they're still amazing, it's an EP but I listened to a reissue with bonus tracks that might be better than the main tracks and make it long enough to count as a LP
KT: GY!BE is like my fav band, of course I love Silver Mt Zion
Jazz Samba: It's what you expect and it's a great classic
Jakob: I think it's supposed to be an EP but due to it's length it might as well be their debut LP, great stuff, early Mogwai vibes, need to relisten to Cale:Drew now
Heligoland: Their weakest but still great
TPO: Finally checking out their early works, wow they had some crazy evolution
AMS: Nice vaporwave
Lookfar: Louie Zong's works are nice
DTSDIH: An interesting vaportrap LP
PRS: Weaker than later EPs but I like how quirky they are

Yume: I've listened to about 3-4 albums from Lamp I think at this point and since there's not that much as their discography is rather small I think they should now qualify as one of my most favorite bands, they got a nice laid-back vibe
TEotB: God is an Astronaut is one of those legendary post-rock bands that I've yet to really finish their discography. This is their debut, I love the more electronic downtempo elements it has
Process: Surprised by how much I loved this, I've heard of Sampha as a name before but now I'm a fan, this guy's really good
Lumi: Also surprised by how much I loved this, since it's generally a short simple cutesy downtempo album but I think I kinda needed it at the moment I listened to it, calmed me down, it's really beautiful actually
Harvest: It's a classic for sure, what else is there to say?
White Tiger Field: Got back with more Hirasawa, been a while since I've last checked out one of his records. Couldn't find translated lyrics for this this time but it's incredible either way, this guy's insanely talented
LVdlL: Music inspired by an important film made by an amazing electronic group. I think they did a good job, it can get pretty surreal at times
ESD: Named as a fav of an artist I like (who follows me on RYM for some reason) TURQUOISEDEATH, it's an incredible ambient EP
The Scuffler: My least fav from this series of EPs I've heard so far but still incredible
LFJR: Insane how the samples are completely unrecognizable, like doing similar things too, except I suck cuz I don't really go anywhere with them
TCIMF: A more beat driven dreampunk album, pretty good
LND: A vaporwave classic, might have actually listened to it before
J. Stauber songs: An EP of a bunch of great songs by a quirky artist I've always loved since getting into music
B-Sides: Wouldn't mind them in the normal LP, they all rule
TRP: Best I've heard from them so far
AOWK: Already knew it from ENA, nice stuff
Butterfly: From BC listen party, spotty but with great heights

Departure Songs: An album I've known for pretty much a decade, probably my first exposure to post-rock but for all this time it was only a thing I listened to a couple of minutes from it, said "I'm loving this, need to listen to it properly when I find time" but I somehow only found time to do that some time last year. It was an immediate hit obviously, in my all time fav albums but relistening to it now, it might have straight up landed at my top 5 of all time. One of the very best of post-rock, dare I say even of all time regardless of genre
Dream Desert: Is it cheating that I didn't listen to the full thing? I mean, it's 4 hours long, I've listened to the first hour or so, it was a busy week for me. I randomly discovered it around the time it released and got really popular on Vapor Memory's YT Channel, the cover grabbed my attention, to this day probably my most fav album cover ever and the music fits perfectly. I kinda wanna live there, the atmosphere is so serene and otherworldly. Rose up really high on my all time favs, even if it's really long and I'll probably not always have the time to listen to the full thing
THM: Yes, pretty cheesy, but the production is unbelievable, and honestly, I don't mind the cheese, couldn't really imagine something like this being any different actually
AiV,AiB: Considered their best, I prefer some of their later works I've heard, specifically their latest is my fav, but this is still obviously amazing
Shred: Skee Mask is going to be considered a classic electronic artist one day
Kuchu Kamp: Fishmans are awesome, I don't love this one as much as others do, I'd put Orange over this (and the last 2 LPs +98.12.28 obviously), but it's really good obviously

#musicsky some of my favorite album discoveries I made in January of 2026. Well perhaps "discoveries" is a bit too much, since I already knew most of these for a very long time, but first listens that I loved basically.

Tortoise: Finally listened to Tortoise. S/T was already pretty good but it really clicked with their second which is their most acclaimed work. Totally get why, this is so good. Catastrophist is not as bad as some make it seem to be, but it is inconsistent and has some meh tracks.
Paul Simon: Of course I loved it
Dub...: I've been meaning to listen to it for a while now, totally worth the hype, some of the best techno out there for sure, really catchy too, some tunes still ring in my head
SiON: Electronic music that feels like watching experimental cinema, N. Jaar is incredible
SSTV Coverage: Basically close to what I wanted my LP to be like... Love winter ambient music
Infinite Color: Currently my fav of this '26 from what I've checked out so far
SSfIG: Random YT recommendation, need more Plantasia-esque records! Really cute!
Tom's Story: Very underrated math rock album
Bloodsport: Prefer Becoming X but this is still really great
Mark Hollis: Gotta check out the first 3 Talk Talk LPs. Really interesting record here, not much else quite like it
25k kittens: Somehow both sad, cute and cathartic. Feels like drifting into cat heaven
SSfLDST: Does so much with so little, drone into space
V&A: On par with the other record
Funky Stuff: More random YT recommendation, knew this for a long time, lives up to its name
NNH: Not as good as the other stuff I've heard from them but dang good post-rock still
Nude: Camel's a great band, surprisingly new age, expected it to be more lyrically heavy
ADTP: Listened to their LP from last year which I loved, this is more ambient, pretty good
Whatever...: Good stuff
BfP: One from the family CD collection, think I actually prefer Little Earthquakes
20thCWY: Obscure Parannoul ambient project, nice
HKE: Nigthtime vaporwave
The Jester: Yet another random YT recommendation, it's fun
Visions: Bangers on here
1381: Truly one of a kind vaporwave project, even if it can be spotty. Wish there was more like it... maybe there is but idk.

Feels like drifting into cat heaven SSfLDST: Does so much with so little, drone into space V&A: On par with the other record Funky Stuff: More random YT recommendation, knew this for a long time, lives up to its name NNH: Not as good as the other stuff I've heard from them but dang good post-rock still Nude: Camel's a great band, surprisingly new age, expected it to be more lyrically heavy ADTP: Listened to their LP from last year which I loved, this is more ambient, pretty good Whatever...: Good stuff BfP: One from the family CD collection, think I actually prefer Little Earthquakes 20thCWY: Obscure Parannoul ambient project, nice HKE: Nigthtime vaporwave The Jester: Yet another random YT recommendation, it's fun Visions: Bangers on here 1381: Truly one of a kind vaporwave project, even if it can be spotty. Wish there was more like it... maybe there is but idk.

After the Magic: Still as magical as the other times I listened to it, if not more. Basically all first 3 albums here on this chart are really high up in my all time favorites list, so I adore this
Bridge Over Troubled Water: Again, the same can be said for this too, I just really really love it, I love all Simon & Garfunkel albums, in fact it's one of the most flawless discographies I've ever listened to yet somehow they kept getting better and better with each album. And while I love the rest, only this final one ended up that high to be in my all time favs but really really really high up and that became apparent to me from the moment I listened to the first track and literally cried due to how beautiful it was. The rest of the album is also incredible.
There Is Love In You: Again, really love it, also love the cover art, feels fitting, I like imagining that you pick up these orbs and looking at them plays a song from this album and you view some kind of memory, maybe it's yours, maybe someone else's.
Teen Dream: Really need to get into more Beach House, this grew on me more, has some absolutely incredible songs.
Wall of Eyes: The Smile and basically most Radiohead adjacent projects kinda fell of for me in recent times due to them being pretty melancholic most of the time and the more I grow up and see where the world is heading, the less I want to interact with sad art, even if it's great art. Which this album definitely is. Remember this being in my top 10 of all time when I first listened to it in '24
Station to Station: Half a century old but still amazing, don't need me to tell you it's one of Bowie's best
Crime of the Century: My mom played it while we were cooking today, wasn't really planning to listen to it otherwise but a good opportunity to remember how good it is.

Tried searching my crap for the funnies on topsters and it did appear, figured the source would be last fm (which I never cared to use), so people know about its existence there too.
And that means we need more people to give me 0.5 stars on rym.
Thank god it's not on aoty yet lol

Dark Island: Why'd it take me so long to get into Pram? This is amazing! Love it's kinda spooky vibe. Feels like a soundtrack to some old obscure console cartoony "horror" game. Need to check out more from them
MOTFD: Honestly, better than World is Yours. The 9 minute long track is epic!
solitude: Might seem way too high of a placement here for a lo-fi hip-hop album but I feel quite nostalgic for them and this is actually an incredible album. The tracks are too short but feel like fleeting memories, the production is better than most other lo-fi hip-hop out there, closer to Nujabes, got some extra wave SFX. It's just really calming and beautiful, I loved it
C&S: Finally listened to some Joni Mitchell sometime last year, more great stuff, though I still prefer Blue
Talkie Walkie: Moon Safari is one of my all time fav albums, about time I listen to some more from them. A bit poppier but that's not a bad thing cuz the execution is great.
MSB: 2026 AOTY so far. I knew it'd be something by Parannoul. Eerie avant-folk with Sigur Ros Vonlenska vocals
Da Budet: Keep saying I want to get into more trance, this is awesome
FOGFWPLOE: The penultimate track is phenomenal
JazzArt: Finally listened to them with their new LP last year, still prefer that over this one but this is still insane and has some brighter moments
WR,WR: More early Parannoul as Laststar, big Mogwai vibes
Purpose: Realized I haven't listened to that much Sangam despite my love for dreampunk, this is really short but really ethereal
Void-004: More dreampunk, has a fuzzy vinyl sound baked in
LSD: Nice shoegaze EP
VLW: Gave her some cloths so the post wont get flagged. Funny, creative and weird trip hop
HiaP: A downgrade from the first, not bad, has some cleaner moments but some things don't work that well
Kora: "where's the drop?"
Macroblank: Still not sure what to think about barber beats, I guess they're fine for bgm but this was a bit meh tbh. Cool cover tho.

BoaND: Still the best thing to come out of the vaporwave scene and one of the greatest ambient albums imo. One of my all time favs
Moon Safari: Another one of my all time favs. Laid back yet kind of epic at times. As I listened to Talkie Walkie, I need to listen to basically every AIR album I think, I need more
LWotPoaBC: Digging up some interviews on the internet I found out this LP was inspired by a dream Parannoul had of finding a blue cat and following it into a forest, after watching Lily Chou-Chou (which as a Parannoul fan it's blasphemous that I have yet to watch it). Guess it fits with the album's vibe, it's instrumental but very vivid, another one of my favs... I mean, Parannoul is one of my all time fav artists
HS,I: It's one of those debuts that feel to me like the humble beginning of a band that seems innocent but will end up becoming a big star and without knowing anything about their future or reception they just do what they feel like, and it feels so honest. One of the best records of post-rock
Kamisori Otome: Excellent debut from an amazing Japanese folk artist with one of the most angelical voices I've ever heard
Small Circle: Nice really short dreampunk album, lots of dreampunk this week
Blood Bank: All tracks here are great, Bon Iver never missed (except maybe when they worked with the... that guy...)
World is Yours: Still incredible, even if I now love their debut more
Rave Tapes: As much of a rave party a post-rock album can be. Gives me Burial vibes somehow, feel like they do a similar thing that feels like leaving from a party drunk at night and the music is still ringing in your head, expect this is some post-rock here
Origami: One of her weaker albums but there's no such thing as a bad or even mediocre Ichiko Aoba album (maybe that one OST and some collabs were hit or miss but still good)

Artuad: Actually a solo effort of Spinetta that the label forced the band name to be used. It is truly incredible and I really really loved it
ASttS: Years ago, I randomly discovered The Caretaker, EATEOT obviously, but before it blew up. I listened to it much later but all six and a half hours in one sitting. I'll just say it could very well be my all time fav album if it weren't for the fact that I will never listen to it again, for various reasons. But it is one of the most powerful albums I've ever experienced. this is one of his older works and has a track that uses the same sample that ends EATEOT, which nobody is ever ready for. It's a great LP too.
sleepmakeswaves: A promo EP released in US for some tour iirc. Contains some amazing post-rock tracks, even if some appear on another EP of theirs as far as I'm aware. Need to check out more from them, they're great. Maybe they hit harder because I listened to them when I heard the news about Matt from Black Midi
Palepoli: Italian In the Court of the Crimson King. You know what that means
Eternal: Knew this guy before learning he makes music. The EPs I've heard so far are amazing IDM
Pescado: 1st is great, 2nd has a few lower lows than their first but the highs are phenomenal making it better
glyphicon: random discovery from bandcamp, debut is ok, 2nd is beautiful aquatic slushwave
SiSW: Great techno from AFX
Hypnagogia: One of the more unique vaporwave LPs
Midnight Blue: Solid nighttime jazz
CfW: Repetitive but really immersive
INEM,IJDOM: Electroindustrial hyperpop with Bad Apple sample
Vengeance: Alright wintery dreampunk, could be better, sounds really samey. Gets better on the second half.

Blackstar: I still remember when I first heard about his death that day, it was everywhere on the TV and the radio and while people were going on with their days as usual, there was a strange funeral atmosphere, that someone great was lost. Possibly the best final LP, because, what else can top what this album did and how it happened.
็ฅž็ง˜็š„ๆƒ…ไบบ: One of telepath's best, beautiful aquatic slushwave always hits great.
Schlagenheim: Yeah, I listened to it when I heard about Matt passing away at 26 and from the way it was worded, I think we all know what they meant happened. I usually don't get affected by artist deaths but when people die so young and in such a way, it does ruin your day. He was really talented and will not be forgotten. Black Midi is still one of the craziest bands in recent years and will go down in history as a classic band. All 3 of theirs are phenomenal, even if Hellfire's my favorite, they all offer their own vibe while still being similar.

Amazing news to make my day!
Bandcamp is an incredible tool to discover random obscure releases and artists and AI kept me suspicious about everything. Lots of AI cover arts too, but that's still a thing. Hope this policy works, good for both artists and fans alike.

Night Road: I discovered desert sand feels warm at night through a YouTube recommendation of his album Dream Desert which has probably my favorite album cover of all time. I immediately fell in love with it, even eventually fully listening to its entire 4 hr runtime in one sitting. DSFWAT is my fav slushwave artist (his dreampunk works are nothing to sneeze at either) and part of it is him innovating the scene with an album like this: sample-free slushwave, his second attempt at that. Honestly, if you didn't tell me, I'd think it's like any other slushwave and I wouldn't mind it, but that just makes everything even more impressive. And this might be my new fav from him (partially due to the runtime being half of dream desert's, 2hrs), it's such a euphoric album, those 2 hrs passed by like a breeze. It's going for a vibe of driving a car, or leaning your head on its window in the backseat and look at the nighttime city and I always love that feeling, perfectly encapsulates it. Highly recommend it
LVDLA: Need to listen to more Alcest cuz I really love what I heard so far
Prisoner: Another DSFWAT, traditional slushwave this time but also one of his best
Hey World: First thing I listened in '26 after a relisten of my album and Freed from this World, needed this lofi slacker rock
Breathless: Awesome fusion of techno and vapor with a shoegaze-like hazy atmosphere. Really loved it
Your Love: Tried and true classic telepath slushwave, nothing crazy but dang great
Leaving: Solid EP, sometimes gives more classic dubstep vibes than usual from Skrillex
Recurring DreamMall: An album made by a guy who listened to my album and liked it (strange how people seem to like it way more than I do), listened to his in return and I really enjoyed it. Pretty good vibe for what it's going for. Also my first 2026 new release listen.

All of them here are really short listens btw
Slow Riot for New Zero Kanada: The best EP of all time because it feels like an actual album. Great entry point to GY!BE and post-rock if you haven't checked them out too
Exit simulation: I've been mentioning on my recently released debut album on its bandcamp page that I was hugely inspired by signalwave during its production, with ideas of short repetitive creepy loops building atmosphere, doing a lot with very little. Infinity Frequencies is the GOAT of signalwave, an absolute master of the genre. Not my fav release of his but still a haunting listen obviously, listened to it for its anniversary today.
ATMOSPHERES 1: Remember back when we weren't quite sure if this was another alias of Blank Banshee, damn this guy's really talented. Love his main alias' works more, they have much more to offer and he's a pioneer of vaportrap but every now and then I have an itch for classic vaporwave and this is one of the best early vaporwave releases imo. Think it's also a little more interesting production wise than some of its contemporaries of that era of vapor.
Freed from this World: Some of the most insane music I've ever listened to. Some may not even want to call it music. It's one of those works of art that feel so alien it's hard to believe a human could think of something like it, for music The Residents come to mind, games like Hylics, films like Tetsuo the Iron Man. URAP URAP URAP URAP

#musicsky #topster #weekster stuff I listened to for the first week of 2026, first listens and relistens, from most to least fav and thoughts on alt text. It's been a rather vaporwave week.

These days I just feel creatively dry, so I don't know when, how soon or late, a new release will be. I feel like a lot of my ideas would benefit from forming a duo with a guitarist friend of mine, but our schedules haven't matched in a while. I'd still have solo stuff, but I think he'd help a bunch

...Also, it sounds ok on my headphones despite some clipping on 2-3 tracks (that I genuinely couldn't get my DAW fixed for that so I gave up), but on that smart TV it was complete dogshit, which makes me understand even more if someone doesn't like the LP, it might sound bad on other devices.
