And thats a wrap! Despite mist & fog for most of the day, 14 new @cwgc.bsky.social #Cemeteries visited & catalogued, from #Esquelbecq
to #Faureuil & several inbetween, 11 new #ShotAtDawn headstones visited (we added a couple) & still had time for a banging #burger at #AuBureau in #Arras!

#PicOfTheDay The simple but moving #WarMemorial on the side of the @clarksshoes factory in #Street #Somerset #England. It is dedicated to the men of the factory who were lost in #WW1 with a further plaque being added later for 12 men lost in #WW2. #LocalHistory

#PicOfTheDay The beautiful #Luxembourg #American #Cemetery #Hamm. Started on December 29th 1944 as the #BattleOfTheBulge raged, 5074 men now stand easy here, many falling in that battle. It is also the resting place of General George Patton. #WW2

#PicOfTheDay Another seldom visited site, #PontDuHem @cwgc.bsky.social #Military #Cemetery #LaGorgue. Started in July 1915 by medical units, it was then used until April 1918. After the #Armistice #German & #Portuguese graves were removed & #British added. Over 1500 men now stand easy here.

#PicOfTheDay Another lesser visited #Cemetery, #SainsLesMarquion #British @cwgc.bsky.social Cemetery #PasDeCalais. The village was taken on 27 Sept 1918,& the cemetery was started the following day & used until mid Oct. It was then added to after the #Armistice. 255 men now stand easy here

#PicOfTheDay Another secluded visit stop, Ontario @cwgc.bsky.social #Cemetery #SainsLesMarquion #PasDeCalais. Started in Oct 1918, it was named after the place the majority of the #Canadian divisions were raised who fell here. Added to after the #Armistice just over 300 men stand easy here.

#PicOfTheDay The beautiful, secluded, lesser visited Quarry Wood @cwgc.bsky.social #Cemetery #SainsLesMarquion #PasDeCalais. It was started by the #Canadians in October 1918 as the 100 day war moved on through the village, and now has nearly 300 men standing easy here. #WW1

#PicOfTheDay The very seldom visited Sanders Keep #Military @cwgc.bsky.social #Cemetery #GraincourtLesHavrincourt #PasDeCalais. Originally a German strong hold, the area was attacked in Sept 1918 & the battlefield cemetery started directly after the battle. 150 men now stand easy here.

#PicOfTheDay The seldom visited Lowrie @cwgc.bsky.social #Cemetery #Havrincourt. With the village changing hands several times, the cemetery was started by the 3rd Div burial officer & subsequently named after him in Oct 1918. Added to after the #Armistice 251 men now stand easy here. #WW1.

#PicOfTheDay The beautiful #Ribecourt Road @cwgc.bsky.social #Cemetery #Trescault #PasDeCalais. The village of Trescault was not taken until Nov 1917 & then changed hands several times. The cemetery was started in Nov 1917 after the battle of #Cambrai and just over 250 men now stand easy here.

And thats a final wrap for 2025! An amazing day starting in the fields & grave side 109 years to the day of our guests relative when he fell. Then onto a wet #Thiepval, of course a proper #Cuppa at the @sommeassociation #UlsterTower, then onto another relative at #ProwsePoint, & #Ypres to finish

Today we remember Private Frederick Duffield of the #9thLancers #BEF Killed in action 111 years ago today as the Germans took #Messines in late 1914. We had the honour in taking his descendants their family and friends on his great war journey in our early days.

#PicOfTheDay #Puchevillers #British @cwgc.bsky.social #Cemetery #Somme. Started by medical units in the area in June 1916 it was used predominantly for casualties for the upcoming battle, then into 1917. It was then added to in 1918 as the defence of #Amiens began. 1763 men now stand easy here.

And thats a wrap on our battlefield #walking recce! Just a little 5.5 mile walk today around #NeuveChapelle before visits to remember the fallen #Portuguese & #Indians. Lunch with boys at #LeTouret @cwgc.bsky.social #Memorial finished an amazing 4 days before 3 1/2 hour delay at the @LeShuttle

#PicOfTheDay Heilly Station @cwgc.bsky.social #Cemetery #MericourtLAbbe #Somme. Started in May 1916 the cemetery was used by medical & fighting units in the area throughout most of #WW1, with many graves containing more than 1 man. 2973 men now stand easy here including 83 #German burials.
