Absolutely loved this short story, too. Stressful, weird, and exhilarating.

Kay Chronister's "Ruminants" is one of the best strange, dark stories I've read all year.

Would a little guy beebopping up a tree calm ya? Brown creeper at Oak Bottom.
That's a fantastic collection!
Top: the cover art of This Movie Doesn't End the Way We Want by Hailey Piper, art by Julia Lloyd, coming from Titan Books on September 15th. Text besides it: in 1994, three girls go to the movies. Only one comes out. 30 years later, the movie isn't done with her. Bottom: the cover art of She Isn't Herself Tonight by Hailey Piper, art by Caroline Johnson, coming from Saga Press on October 27th. Text besides it: alien abductions, a break-up from hell, and what you become when your worst enemy is yourself.

One novel to make you shudder and one novel to make you cry, and both up for pre-order nowβthat's how we roll around here, bay-bee π
It's going to be a wild year of horror fiction.
"A very beautiful story."
How the Alps lost its bone-breaker vultures - then got them back.
Few things are as uplifting as the return of wild nature.

Anybody remember this one 3D rail shooter that used to be on AddictingGames when that was still a thing and was vaguely similar to Panzer Dragoon in that you were riding a weird flying creature through a fantastic setting? I remember the imagery vividly but not the title.
I ran my first 5k of 2026 this morning (39 minutes, still shaking the rust off) and listened to Blue Oyster Cult and Dead Can Dance pretty much the whole way. There are probably better ways to start a Tuesday, but there can't be many.
I've wanted to use these things in a story for ages.
We've been saying for so long: "Socialism or barbarism". Well, it's not a theoretical. The barbarism is here. We are inflicting it on the entire planet. This system demands it. Either it goes or we go, and the bosses have made their choice in the matter.
Happy belated!
Just started THE SCALD-CROW by @gracedalyauthor.bsky.social and so far, so great. Always a nice little surprise when my area gets mentioned in fiction (in this case, the protagonist's college town).
Right on the line between "normal" and "high" is still technically "normal," right? Anyway, it's lower than it was last year, which is the real win. Efforts at better diet and exercise continue.
Finally read @haileypiperfights.bsky.social's THE POSSESSION OF NATALIE GLASGOW today and it's one of my favorite possession stories I've ever encountered. I won't reveal the twist for any who haven't yet had the pleasure but it's such a cool idea. Bravo, Hailey.
My blood sugar and cholesterol are within normal ranges, and I just passed 30,000 words in my rock-'n-roll/inter-generational horror novel WIP. Celebrated with a cold beer and couple of mint chocolates.
Also, as always: Fuck ICE, fuck Trump et al., fuck the war.

I like writing stories like these and just set them pre-Internet (I don't particularly love writing stories set in the 21st century anyway).
I have a new story out today in @uncannymagazine.bsky.social!
βWhat We Mean When We Talk About The Hole In The Bathroomβ is about superstition, intercultural relationships, and yes, a strange hole in the bathroom.

We don't simply need to abolish ICE.
We need to treat its agents the way the SS agents were treated at the end of the Holocaust.
Crimes against humanity must be aired in the light of day and publicly punished.
Give justice to the victims of these monsters.
Finally catching up on @gemmafiles.bsky.social's first collection, Kissing Carrion. REALLY digging it so far.
Ooh yes.
The US Justice Department withheld testimony that Donald Trump sexually abused a girl when she was 13 or 14 - according to a source who viewed unredacted Epstein files.
This is the worst scandal in US history and should be the biggest news story on the planet right now.

^ This exactly. If StokerCon ever returns to the Midwest I'll rent a car and drive, but I can't really afford more than one cross-country trip a year (if that) and traveling with my wife takes priority.
I've been praying for Crowzilla, now all must face the wrath of Crowzilla
