Grim Trials is our most ambitious game yet, and it exists because of YOU, our community, and the incredible support from @goldpactgoblins, @SSourcePublish.
We're so proud of how far we've come. Thank you for being part of Avelin's journey! 🖤 (10/11)
The crafting system also used to be WAY more complicated: every tool and material had its own crafting minigame. Fun in theory, but it got tedious fast.
We eventually streamlined the process to keep things moving but without losing the soul of the game! (9/11)
Initially, we planned to make combat more strategic!
Avelin could hide in bushes, and backstab enemies but such gameplay soon proved to be something beyond the team's scope and capabilities, so these mechanics were scrapped! (8/11)
Developing Grim Trials was not without its own challenges.
We needed to balance roguelite mechanics, customization, and the narrative so they formed a coherent package with the main theme of purifying your soul! (7/11)
If you love theorycrafting, you're not alone: we also drew inspiration from ARPGs like Diablo and Path of Exile!
We want build variety so you can craft your perfect Reaper! Fun fact: one team member made a crossbow-focused build that worked way better than we expected 😅 (6/11)

- Ember Knights & Curse of the Dead Gods' combat variety and fluidity
