Yup! A relative of mine uses the “blood is thicker than water” thing all the time but especially after treating us like shit and then expecting respect, help, or our time. I’m sure the saying was purposely changed over time so people could use genes as an all encompassing get out of jail free card.

I work in a federal public health role (thankfully, not in the US). In 2020, I was on a COVID taskforce and saw firsthand how amazing epidemiologists and other “disease detectives” are and what they saved our bacon from. This is devastating.
